Ahhhh, Portugal, I knew it had to be Portugal the second you mentioned it. It's great to hear both your views on it.

How is it without knowing Portuguese?
Is there a large international psy community that stays there year round?
Are there any particular cities, towns, where the scene is a sort of headquartered or active not just for parties, but part of the larger lifestyle like fashion, yoga, music (like Anjuna, Goa)?

Well the scene has changed a lot in the last decade, where many labels either outgrew them selfs and basically only make annual and bi-annual festivals, or got fed up with the scene and broke up.. My perspective is that in the center area not much happens, but up north the scene has grew a lot more.. nevertheless, the country is 600 Km high (straight line), so "north", "center" and "south" are actually very close together, and more than possible to cross the country for a party

Nevertheless, I think it's great! Not particularly any psychedelic cities, but usually we have an average of 4 parties per Saturday across the country, so there's always something to do! Any doubts, there's this site called psyparties dot com, you can check out whats happening

Speaking Portuguese isn't a must, as just about everyone understands a bit of English and can speak enough words to communicate. Also, facebook is really used to diffuse parties, and english is a "standard" language that everyone uses on FB.

There isn't necessarily a "psy town", but there are some delights (such as an isolated hippie town or two [w/o electricity]), and some towns might have more psy-freaks than others. The capital has some permanent psy bars, and there are some things scattered around, but nothing too huge to notice.

However, there are some organizers who have a nicely set up gig, with parties every week on a nice terrain, so there's always fun. Ahh, and the "fun" (hint hint) is quite cheap too compared to other countries

Relating to the sound, the issue is most PT producers have figured out that a FM saw with lots of noise passed through LP and HP filters creates an "aggressive" lead, and everyone uses that same lead. SO, if you're 200 meters from the PA all you hear is the beat and a swooaaaoooiiuuuussssh.. but thats the night full on, then there are a lot of dark lovers out there. But, just about every party here (except Goa Gil) has the typical suomi -> dark -> full on -> progressive sub-genre evolution, so it all fits in and there's something for everyone.

Thank you my friend. A wonderful reply to my question. It covers a lot of things that I wanted to know about. It looks like a visit to Portugal is due! Really glad that there are some good things happening out there.

Also listening to your tunes on Sound Cloud. Some really nice fun, funky, psychedelic things you have going on Keep it up and all the best!

And by the way, I think the link you wanted to post is psypartys dot com.

oh yeah Uruguay is the first country where marihuana is legal now since very short time. Seems very interesting country to me too. I believe there are lots of places on this planet that are atleast as special as goa once was.
Hovever, am couriuos what's happening in Uruguay apart of free smoking? Afaik it is limited to 40 grams a month that would be absolutely ok. Dunno anything else about this country. I'm going to visit marakesh in a few weeks, hope to find something special there too.

some exact coordinates would be nice too.

i can imagine to travel in south america for a month or two in march and april. is uruguay okey in these months?

I've just returned from Bahia and Universo Paralello was a great oportunitie to meet some of our fellow global trance citzens on a marvellous beach. Probably very diferent from the platonic Goa, but i think it worth a lot the journey.

haven't been to goa so far, but I doubt it is as free when like to smoke and fly as in Essaouira where all cops are smoking themselves ..best location so far for me. Jimi Hendrix was there also a few times in his time. It's very hippy kind of vibe still there. Truely amazing peaceful and lovely.
Only Sahara was still something more special to me, but of course, that's not comparable to goa. So I'd recommend Essaouira in this thread. In my mind I think with my woman maybe to move there someday. Maybe faster. It's great. And a propos waves you got most probably the largest in the world there. Surfers know it well. Very cool spot at all.

i am taking my boyfriend and leaving for ever (for the 10th time) too

but i would like to have a place better than goa. in goa nobody really needed to work and the flee market was enough. nowadays we need a place with more opportunities. i would like to find a social engagement task for my friend at this place before i leave. no holidays island needed.

I stopped reading after "my boyfriend" and mind shifted went elsewhere. my eyes slowly drifted away from the screen. the words echoing in my head like the sound of a distant low frequency acid line, fading into memories from an other lifetime...

yeah, it's been bustling quite a bit this year, so i've heard....it's maturing and getting used to the fact that u can have solid music scene without being very open about all the other stuff....like i doubt you see too many chillums being boomed all over the place any more...but everyone probably still toking joints here and there...

Nothings ever going to come close to the original North Goa, Anjuna / Vagator psy scene that was going strong till about, I don't know 2004, 2005, 2006? I guess till the 10 PM noise ban that came into effect.

So I'm talking about places that remind you of Goa but purely from a psy culture perspective.

And I'm not talking about places that have the potential to become another Goa, that would be a cool discussion, but just like how you can't recreate another Silicon Valley but you can create another Tech Hub, you can't ever have another Goa.

However, you could have another psy hub. So not just a place that throws festivals a couple of times a year, or a place that has a strong creative community, but that has a lot or all of the necessary ingredients conducive to a psychedelic culture.

And I'm asking about places that actually exist, even if they are super tiny in scale. Although a discussion about places that have the potential to become psy hubs is also welcome.

Sorry for the repetitive and running thoughts.

Hello,

Soon I am moving to India and I would like to know similar places to visit like Goa. I will me living in Kerala district.
