oh yeah Uruguay is the first country where marihuana is legal now since very short time. Seems very interesting country to me too. I believe there are lots of places on this planet that are atleast as special as goa once was.
Hovever, am couriuos what's happening in Uruguay apart of free smoking? Afaik it is limited to 40 grams a month that would be absolutely ok. Dunno anything else about this country. I'm going to visit marakesh in a few weeks, hope to find something special there too.

Marrakesh is a fucking horrible place, sorry.

yes, I'm very curious, please explain.
I and my lady are really looking forward to spend some interesting time, more backpacker style than the usual tourist with booked hotel style.
I have heard only really nice things about Marakhesh from people from this area as well as from africans from the continent that this is a worth see area.           https://soundcloud.com/shivagarden

It sounds like a place that you may wanna pass thru to see and grab a few things, connect with some people, and then head off to somewhere nicer.... like Kasol

Never been to Goa but Thailand has a pretty happening psytrance scene. And I'm not talking about the full moon parties at ko phangan. Ko Phangan might actually be worse than Goa.

If you ever end up in thailand look out for Ooze bar in bangkok. Be sure to have a talk with Jacky. He throws this psytrance party in february and in december called moon mountain. They organize a bus to kanchanaburi (it's a pretty secluded lake in the jungle west of bangkok) The party takes place in the middle of the lake on massive rafts for 3 days. The capacity is around 60 people, so it's nice and intimate. By the end of the 3 days, you end up knowing pretty much everyone.

Sounds awesome! I've never been to Thailand for psy, just visited Bkk with family a long time ago. Thought it was an extremely chill place.

portugal is open for psy... simple possession of anything for personal consumption is decriminalized, simple regulations and procedures in most localities for getting permissions to organize a large musical event with sound, camping, food, etc...
great locations, tolerant local people who don't mind a bunch of foreign visitors, simple village charm, amazing nature, etc... who knows, you mind end up staying...

hey guys!! hope you are all good!!
indeed Ocelot, im portuguese, and i think too portugal is a great place for partys, im suspect! hehe
i think is pity that we got a lot of partys in the weekends and weeks, but the sound is all the same..
here in portugal the organizers dont bet in the real psytrance/goa/chill out, but allways in the south african new mexian full on night.. now its becoming cultural, and the people who start to go to partys just want that sound.. the organizers wants money..soo...
but, i love the vibe here, there's small partys with such good vibe and sound, and mindblowing festivals like boom and zna.
and the nature is very good, we got beach monstains and forest!! what do you want?? hehe

ps: Ocelot, thanks for your music! i love it! keep it psy!!

(sorry for my bad english, i hope you all understand)

many foreign people are moving to portugal and buying land (because of cheap prices in rural areas for good land for cultivation...) and starting to live "off the grid" and this lifestyle also goes well with the psychedelic underground...
the local people are tolerant and open-hearted...

ideal for parties:
1) easy access to good sound systems of large capacity for rental (like function one etc...)
2) easy access to friendly farmers with land to rent
3) easy access to the requisite circus tent rental
4) desirable destination for international public
5) decriminalization of all controlled substances for personal possession= no pretense of shutting your party down for "public safety" when someone gets popped in your parking lot... your guests are more relaxed

yes, generally the local taste seems to revolve around nocturnal fullon/ south african sounds, or the high-tech/dark scene is very popular with young people... but for an international public you already have some general knowledge... BOOM festival, Freedom Festival, ZNA, TranceKarma, etc... at least 15 years of non-stop partying...

after seeing all the bad things happen in other places, regarding police harrassment etc... it's just refreshing to see one place be so simply open.
portugal- the place with a long term future for partying...

thats why i'm building my little house and studio here...           check new OCELOT, PROG-A-LOT and more on

Ahhhh, Portugal, I knew it had to be Portugal the second you mentioned it. It's great to hear both your views on it.

How is it without knowing Portuguese?
Is there a large international psy community that stays there year round?
Are there any particular cities, towns, where the scene is a sort of headquartered or active not just for parties, but part of the larger lifestyle like fashion, yoga, music (like Anjuna, Goa)?

Well the scene has changed a lot in the last decade, where many labels either outgrew them selfs and basically only make annual and bi-annual festivals, or got fed up with the scene and broke up.. My perspective is that in the center area not much happens, but up north the scene has grew a lot more.. nevertheless, the country is 600 Km high (straight line), so "north", "center" and "south" are actually very close together, and more than possible to cross the country for a party

Nevertheless, I think it's great! Not particularly any psychedelic cities, but usually we have an average of 4 parties per Saturday across the country, so there's always something to do! Any doubts, there's this site called psyparties dot com, you can check out whats happening

Speaking Portuguese isn't a must, as just about everyone understands a bit of English and can speak enough words to communicate. Also, facebook is really used to diffuse parties, and english is a "standard" language that everyone uses on FB.

There isn't necessarily a "psy town", but there are some delights (such as an isolated hippie town or two [w/o electricity]), and some towns might have more psy-freaks than others. The capital has some permanent psy bars, and there are some things scattered around, but nothing too huge to notice.

However, there are some organizers who have a nicely set up gig, with parties every week on a nice terrain, so there's always fun. Ahh, and the "fun" (hint hint) is quite cheap too compared to other countries

Relating to the sound, the issue is most PT producers have figured out that a FM saw with lots of noise passed through LP and HP filters creates an "aggressive" lead, and everyone uses that same lead. SO, if you're 200 meters from the PA all you hear is the beat and a swooaaaoooiiuuuussssh.. but thats the night full on, then there are a lot of dark lovers out there. But, just about every party here (except Goa Gil) has the typical suomi -> dark -> full on -> progressive sub-genre evolution, so it all fits in and there's something for everyone.           Super Banana Sauce http://www.soundcloud.com/knocz
