hey guys!

for some reasons i can spend about 2500€ for production and i need your advice.
i dont need software, just hardware.

here is my equipment:

room:
4,5 x 3 meters (no room treatment)

monitors:
http://www.thomann.de/de/yamaha_hs50m.htm

computer:
dualcore 2,1ghz

soundcard:
emu 1212m

controller:
novation sl mk2

i thought of getting a new pair of speakers,
and some roomtreatment (i can get rockwool for free!). please tell me what YOU think i have to improve to get my production to a new level xD

i prefere monitors without a external subwoofer (small room), or do you think it will be worth a try?
any other hardware suggestions?

cheers

I can't give any tips for new monitors, I'm sure some other people can weigh in.

Maybe a virus snow? New computer with an i7? Studio headphones if you have use for them? Portable recording device for sampling?           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

i would get a new computer i guess it s less than 1000 euro to build a silent i7.

then monitoring( room acoustic, monitors and digital to analog converter)

at the moment, a new pc would be a waste i think...
the dualcore works fine. a littlebit slow at the end of projects, but thats all.

can i use stacked rockwool triangles as basstraps in the corners?

should i get the bm5a mk2, or the bm6a mk2 with my roomsize (4,5*3 meters)?

@Elad
i checked some videos of this thing, its nice!
i just bought my novation sl mk2 and have to learn it first.
i will save up the remaining money and buy stuff when i need it.

maybe a virus snow could be a good addtion if you want a hardware synth , if not maybe a good dac like a lavry black , you get a good output for headphone, a transparent monitor volume control( bm6a don t have one) and great converters (maybe you find it overkill but secondhand you can have one for less than a rme)
spend your money on pro stuff that you don t need to update later, it s cheaper in the end and if you buy used you can sell wihtout loosing any money if needed.

with the room acoustic , monitors and dac you have everyhting you need to produce imo, the weak link will be only the room you are in

The most important thing to improve your sound would be your monitors/acoustic treatment. My production improved a lot once i upgraded to good monitors & got some acoustic treatment.

If you can get free rockwool just try & make as many of your own bass traps as you can. Try to treat all the corners in your room, including the horizontal (ceiling/wall, floor/wall) corners.

So whatever money you have left over you should spend on getting the best monitors you can afford & maybe a better audio interface like something from RME.

Monitors i would recommend in your budget:

Focal Twin/Solo, Focal CMS 65, Dynaudio BM 12A/6A

If you want to improve your monitoring even more then get a good DAC like PoM suggested, Lavry DA10, Mytek DA96 etc.

thanks guy, i think its better to start slow that i dont buy stuff i dont like or need!

first ill treat my room, and have a look on gearsluts.

then ill get the monitors.
if i choose dynaudio, should i get the 5 or 6 series?
they only differ in size, right? i want the right size for my room.

when i got this, ill check the things you told.

thanks           www.soundcloud.com/orgytime

Definitely get the 6 series, the low end on the 5 is not enough (i've owned both).           http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic

yes the 6 ones..or from ADAM`S new series..

the problem with smaller monitors and an additional sub is always to get them "InPhase" ..so its a hard time to set them up right, that the bass comes to you ear at the same time from three different speakers, if possible its always a better solution to buy a bigger speaker with more bass..proper stands are a must as well;)

You can borrow stuff @ http://www.digitalaudioservice.de

then check them out if your located in germany..they will even give you very good deals "if you ask"

always better then thoman..just give them a call and ask for Thomas Klosinsky..hes a good guy with a lot of knowledge and makes good prices..i worked in that shop for over a year..;D

Or ask for Arnd Niemeyer or Thomas Rφhman..even very nice people with good knowledge..especially Thomas Rφhman..

they will even send you the stuff to your home for 10days with no costs..so you can check all out at your room..

Decent monitors and a fireface 800 would be my suggestion..then you got really pro audio ad/da converters, very clean mic preamps and probably the most stable drivers in the interface world..

then i really can recommend this set of acoustics..

http://www.der-schaumstoffdiscounter.de/epages/61456034.sf/de_DE/?ObjectPath=/Shops/61456034/Products/eck1100420420

very good absorbtion..i got that here at my room..its very cheap but even very good..

you could buy B-products there for even more treatment..the stuff is proper enough, just cover it with some nice thin fabric and your done..

if you got more question just ask here or via pm..

cheers

thanks guys,
it will take a few weeks until i got the money.
ill will let you know when i got the stuff and
make some pics then xD

@zork
the basstraps looks nice and are very cheap,
but i thought it should be high tensity?
so this would be a better solution than a selfmade
rockwool trap?
also thanks for the link to your old workplace

@upavas
a virus also came to mind, ill let some time pass until i make a dicision

again a question for the dynaudios...
the mk2 is cheaper, what should i get?

to go.
