i was playing a beatless/droney set at an indoor weekend-long ambient camping party around 4am or so

some guy showed up, sat down right in front of the speakers, and started playing celtic ballads on a harp

he gave me a really dirty look when i told him to stop.           http://www.djnod.net

I think I'm with the harpist- - Celtic ballads sounds a good call at 4am whilst camping! ...though I'm sure your drones were equally as enthralling!

Treworgey Tree Fayre (1989?)

There was only one stage, Wango Riley's, and it was chilled out Psychedelic Rock - bands like the Magic Mushroom Band, Mandragora...

Then, EVERYONE was suddenly on white lightning acid blotters and one of the PA crew flipped a wobbler

He was crashing about amongst 1000 people all just tripping and sitting and smoking

I had the bright idea to stand up and wave a big night candle about, going cooeee, over here, while peaple were literally running away screaming

Anyway, the security guys pounced on him before he got to me

*phew*

Yhen Hawkwind played, rescued the trip and they had lasers that were following the contours of the hills for miles and miles or maybe that was the sid - um...

two bad ones:

1. Being asked to spin at a "chill out dome" at an outdoor mountain party. It was very excited and I was ready to rock. It was summer, but it dropped near freezing and I didn't have a good enough fleece. When we arrived at the "chill out dome" it was actually just a beer selling cart (!) with a sound system out front and a pile of sharp, freezing rocks for the DJ to sit on. It was one of the coldest, most aching and lonely experiences - very humbling. Truly chill - practically arctic.

2. Having to deal with this "dark" terror ambient DJ who wanted to play at local events in Oregon. He would play chainsaw samples, Hitler speeches, animal sacrifice recordings, nails on the chalkboard, industrial glitch and dischord in the chill out room. The audience would scream "Stop!" and "WTF! Is this music?!?!" and even pull the plug on him - but he was sadistic (hardcore darkpsy style) and he lived to upset the vibe. One night I hooked up with this beautiful, young blonde vixen and we were chilling in paradise and all of a sudden this dark-ambient-terror-DJ dude came on. The girl stopped snuggling with me, announced she was "feeling sick to her stomach" and had to go home right away. Poof!

Wah...!

I strolled up to the ambient area along side a beautiful pool on the edge of a huge cliff overlooking the sea.

Gwaing River, George, South Africa.
A truelly amazing venue.

Big Psy-Trance area and literally 20m away was the chill-out area.
I played one track amongst pounding beats.
Nothing was heard over the trance volume.
I turned off the system, packed my bag and walked-off.

Only to return 20 minutes later with someone else trying in vain to play chillout over the next door trance system.

Full-on gay man-on-man sex action during my chillout set once. Damn, why couldn't my music turn on the lesbians instead like that?

'nuff said.

Going to a supposed chill out room, but the music choice ended up being breaks/house and progressive trance all night long

How does that make sense?

hmm there was one time when we drove 9 hours to a party that was a small restaurant, decorated and soon learned that my chillout set upstairs was the same time as my friends psy dj set that was downstairs with a massive system.
so i basically had to play beatless ambient along with what he was playing downstairs... on one monitor speaker.

i have lots more...

i was playing on Psybertech Party (Oficial After Freedom Festival Party)

and i was playing a very nice downtempo tune, and then came someone and start screaming at me saying that we were on ambient area, not main floor, and to change the music. ??!!??!!

wtf???

After that, the person start speaking in russian language and left.

The person was XP VODOO and i was very shoked because it came from a world reputation dj.

How can a dj like him do not know the diferences between downtempo themes and ambient themes.

How can a dj like hime do not know how big and large is the the chill out world. ???

Very very sad. I already heard some weird storys about xp vodoo, and this episode just confirm how psycho he is

Well...not long ago, Brazil yet again...very, very tired.
After 4 days restless, no food...just being naughty.

I started to play to a mildly full audience first track...this tremendous storm unfolded about 1 zillion liters of water by cm2, winds of 300Kmh, sand all over da place...for about 30 min.

After that people was soaking wet and bored of being squeezed at the dj both, where btw I was still spinning, so everybody left.

To make it perfect...the next dj didn't show up...neither the other one.

So 6 hours for me that I couldn't stand 2, good thing is that after the 3rd. hour some people came...I ended up playing minimal techno for about 20 people.

Next dj asked me if, please, could I play another tune because he was just not ready...I nearly cried.
My fake plants died, because I did not pretend to water them.

witouth all most 1 power cut into a party, is not a good undeground party....

is classic, a must to have into a dancefloor, is part of the all concept...
you know.... , the guys in charge are lost somewhere or sleeping....

and it appears always a guy in the moment that you`re mixing....asking for a cd box......just for five minutes.....not enough...he asks"do you know who is playing in the main floor?"

but the worst of all is listening to tales of the inexpressible or entheogenic debut in shuffle/repeat mode all the night(powered by clever djs inc.).....nasty
