Witch Hunting

Once upon a time, in the deep forests of old Europe, back in the Middle Age, there were strange gatherings of people freaking out together. The master of ceremony was called a wizard or a sorcerer, and had the knowledge of weeds and fruits and mushrooms. Collectively, these people went into saqcred experiences and freaked out together.
If some glorious knights of a nearby castle was ever passing by the forest at that time of the night and saw these people dancing and freaking on the sound of tambourine, laughing and fucking in the woods, he would bring some of his fellow knights back to the place, would catch up everyone, bring them on the public place of the village, and set them all ON FIRE!
Nowadays, it changed a little bit... But doesn't it sound familiar??

I find your example highly overrated and a bit too dramatic

BUT his headline was "Witch Hunting" and can easily be undertood as that some feel they are being hunted (as in debating) because they are into something other think is a bit weird

Sounds like your mixing up an adventure of your own consisting of the legends of arthur, celtic druids and the spanish inquisition.
Not to say that gatherings in some respects to what you describe havent taken place, but most of the witch hunting took place during and after the spanish inquisition which was formed 1478 and dispanded 1834.
This puts most of what you talk about after the middle ages.
However, there were instances of the inquisition before that, which were actually more about eradicating other christian sects than it was about fighting old time beliefs.
I think, for the most part, it would not have been knights roaming around chasing down witches.... that stuff primarily happened after the middle ages and took form of informants turning in their fellow people as "witches".
However - You are right, those in power, and those wanting to impose their views & beliefs on others are at the same time the people who crack down on any successfull minority. Afterall, any belief, value & lifestyle system which is successfull is a threat to their own, as far as I am concerned - The Christians and other religious fractions are still, by far, the most dangerous in human culture.
So it can and will happen to us, therefore we need to be carefull
