im so interested in this question already for 6 months that ive been here i wonder why is psytrance is not popular in usa while it is in the whole world besides usa ive been to europe and im from israel and psytrance is really a common thing while here people dont even know what is it i dont believe that is because the "12 hours of hard work a day "like synthetic sadhus said in his farwell letter where he explained why he quittes doing parties people all over the world work hard and even harder then in usa.....

this is a really good question... i think that geography is probably the biggest reason. what i mean by that is..

1. americans don't travel abroad as much as people from some other countries do. i think that it is commonly understood that many many israelis have been to goa and were able to bring a lot of that back with them when the trance scene there was was blossoming in the early 90's. the same goes for the many australians, japanese, and europeans (especially the british) that also were on the travellers' circuit @ that time. it was and still is a lot easier to get to india from that side of the globe than it is to from north america... thus america is sort of late in the game on the psy tip.

2. america is one spread out place.. and the population density here is much less than it is in israel, europe, or japan. there are some trance scenes in the big cities here, but on the whole psytrance fans are scattered across hundreds of miles of sparsely populated terrain.

3. the rave scene (especially in the us) has been established here for a very long time. ever since the onset of chicago house and detroit techno, america has had a different view of electronic music than some other parts of the world. people here have grown up on florida breakbeat, club trance, house music of every description imaginable, and most big cites have well established d&b scenes. the majority of the records that turn up from overseas @ stores here are from the uk, and on the whole most record stores here don't use the distibutors that carry psytrance. promoters here book talent that they know will draw a crowd, and since there isn't a lot of recognition when it comes to psy, it often gets overlooked... c'est la vie.

i could probably think of more, but it is way late and i need some sleep..

im partly agree with you sage but how can you explain the sf scene althouth i never been there i know they have rec companies massive crowd that not only comes to the parties but also creates art music (penta) and its a whole community like it is in the most of the world and you look on the ny scene wich is the second biggest in usa and its really not like that i mean there is 2 or 3 organizing crews that compete and lots of politics in ny the vibe is really not the same i dont talk about miami i leave here and we are practicly starting from the beggining becouse really there is no people here exceptn maybe 10

i study in indiana and people here have never heard of psy trance before. most of them are still too hung up on rock and do not consider electronic music as being a creative form of music. there are lots of free spirited people here and i am sure that if a party scene arose the people would embrace it.

Cause in the USA each different state is almost like a different country

SF and Indana sre two TOTALLY different places with completley different people.
The USA is a giant place with more different cultures and different types of people thant any country in the world. Of course it will be different from state to state.           no sig

PsyTrance in America?

Most of today's psytrance is musically derived from teutonic and tribal influences. Both of which are anathema to the average Wal Mart shopping, Potato Chip eatin', elvis lovin' fat american.

The rave scene in the states can't relate to anything that doesn't have to do with break dancing and the rest of youth culture, in general, is obsessed with the shallow carcasses of rock and hip hop.

The only hope really that I see in spreading psytrance in the US is to spread it to the goth/industrial communities that haven't been overly tainted by electroclash (goth/industrial music is quite popular as far as subculture goes in the states) or bring it to people that are really into yoga.

my 2 pesos.

oh yeah....and to add....san francisco is a bit of a bubble and resembles, from my perspective, europe and asian more than the suburban wastelands of most american cities. The good vibes are probably just from the harmonic resonance from the san adreas fault line.

Well considering that US has more immigration than all other countries in the
world, this would be true. If you've travled the country as I have you would know that every state can be like different country in itself, and in some cases , like FLorida ,even cities are different. Go to redneck Davie, Florida and tell me that it's not completely different than going to South Beach -
Psyman asked a question and We trying to answer it. This is why psytrance can be popular in one area of the US , say San Fransisco, and not popular in another Tentwins It has nothing to do with ego.

After writing my post I was thinking the same thing. I forgot the fact that USA has had immigrants from every part of the world since it was created as a nation.

But how many of those cultures haven't blended in the today's average american culture??

How much do you know of cultural diversity in other countries??

im not trying to turn this to a debate or saying there is not diversity in other countries - just saying that there are many cultures in the usa, its a melting pot - lets get off this.
