Why People can't Understand Trance....

I have been thinking...Why 90% of the
people can not understand this psychedelic music, and then i found the reason wile i was
watching tha movie "Matrix": in it, a man
looked at the Matrix world on his T.V. but other peopel sow only cods on the tv (running numbers) wile the man sow a live picture.
it's the same thing in trance....u must dig real deep inside if u wont to understand and love it.

Right.
To put it in other words - 90% of te ppl hear only the base drum umtza umtza beat. We hardly hear that part, we just feel it. We hear the other sounds / samples much more

Actually most of my friends do hear the music behind the beat, but they just don't like it.
Those who do, like only the beat.

Many people don't even know what psytrance is. Most people call it techno(like eminem).
When I listen to hip-hop for example, I just don't understand what people like in that music, maby their hear thing I don't? or maby it's Mtv? I don't know, people are different. |

I guess it's by way of consciousness we hear music, so not everybody can follow certain structures of music or consciousness in the way others do.

I think this is not only about the feelings people dislike trance cause of it. Unfotunately, many people are influenced by superstitions and bad name given to trance. Electronic music, and moreover it trance, are things rightly related to drugs and amphivitamines. Same thing are relating rap and hip-hop music to "black gangs".
Another thing, that this music is new to great amount of people and it tooks them time to adjust themselves.
All this things are completely combined mostly in older generations, although I saw also some superstitious young people.
Always remember you're unique, just like everyone else. |

Like it was written before I, we are gifted with an open mind. We do not need words or rhyme to complete our journey. We see things others dont. We hear things others wont. HipHop/Rap whatever you want to call it is more popular because it is simple. Same with alternative rock and roll. Simplicity. Common village idiots cannot percieve the complex, cannot understand the higher levels of consciousness and efintely are not as creative. Most people hear the monotonous beat and rule it out instantly. Yet however throw some ecstacy and a tampa booty break at them and they are in love. Breaks are a form of electronica very popular where i come from. Very closely related to booty dance and hip hop. Simple music. People eat it. See the connection? I listen to so much trance I swear sometimes my heartbeat is 140 bpm. Its not the beat that gets me, its the feeling of being on drugs when your clean ;-)

ha .. i don`t think that to understand trance music u must be gifted...
Everyone has his own kind of sound he can FEEL ... someones can not feel electronic music.. someone can not feel straith beat
for example i can not feel music with lyrics... etc..

Totally understand your POV..
I have been having the same problem of late..
I worked with alot of rock musicians .. and a lot of my friends play in 'rock' bands..
For a long time I have been lost to them .. I put up with comments like "We never saw this coming" and "It all sounds the same"
But I realised that aren't listening.. they're looking for hooks and poses.. it is almost insulting to the drummers ..
Coming from an engineering background I can clearly communicate with people the techniques used - and the artists genius
It is only lately when I have been discussing some albums and explaining the beauty in the gentle manipulation and building of sub freq that can only be felt at loud volumes that they are starting to really understand what I see .. helps that I have a sub woofer at my keyboard level.. one record in particular I could feel a gentle rumble as I typed and by the end of the track I could feel the skin vibrate on the back of my hand..
I guess people look for things in music .. and if you have a shortened attention span - 3 & 1/2 minutes is the commercial norm - and don't really LISTEN to music then ya' going to miss the point.. ya' gotta stop to smell the roses not just enjoy their beauty ..
Image is another thing I just thought of too.. people tend to identify with certain cliches.. it's not like every trance acts are printing shirts, mugs e.t.c and have a merchandising stall near the entrance of the venue.. or finish sets with "Our CD is available at.."

I find that a lot of my friends tend to like Holy Men, Infected Mushroom, Chi-A.D., and Astral Projection. but when I play Bonky, Fongus of Light, Sandman, Brain Bubbles, Diablo, BLT and others....they all kinda just back away. I don't get it.
I really hate when I play some cds and people just go "is this the new Crystal Method or something?", just makes me wanna punch them, even more when they say "oh, is this rave music", ARG! that just makes me wanna bike the bastards.
Some stuff sounds like bass and beats, but thats the cheesy stuff that can be found any where. But the stuff that gets me is the ones that try, and make good stuff, like Infected Mushroom, Chi-AD, and so forth.
I agree with the Matrix idea, but hey, I gotta go post a new thread before I forget about it.
