it's just one of those things that sounds good only when done right
if it's a good sample that adds to the emotion of the track then I like it, if it's just kinda "there" then I'm usually impartial because I assume I didn't get the artists message

Movie samples can be used in a cool way, but it’s still generally just repetition with little genuine psychedelic excitement, sort of an easy way out of having to come up with something truly original and new. You may give the samples your own spin but you are still just bottom feeding out of the creations of the Hollywood business. You are inserting what some stuck up actor farted out on a Hollywood stage to make a shitload of money out of pawns like you and me. Can’t you see that? I mean is that all we have to offer? it makes me sad!! Where is your own voice, where are your own ideas? make our own movie, your own reality!!! Don’t just tune in, create you’re your own show. People, don’t undermine your own thoughts and ideas: nourish them and let them be heard. That is the cutting edge because its your voice coming out of its shell, and that is revolution. Here you are with your tail under your legs sniffing out for crumbs dropped by Hollywood to include in your track. Come on people!! Hey I would rather listen to the voice of the homeless on the street laughing his ass at our bullshit dysfunctional system than to hear a sample of all those people up on the hill making our fav movies. I know its not all bad and you can’t generalize, yeah there are great movies and indie flicks and documentaries, ok whatever.
Look I am not saying its wrong to use those samples, I just think our scene is stuck in a mediocre mindset where there is no real exploration or desire to really go beyond the matrix that society calls reality. And beyond is where the psychedelic beats really are.
Its not that I take things seriously, but considering our true potential then it becomes really hard to just sit in front of the tv giggling to mind numbing repetition and jokes that define a reality which is far from the freedom I wish to see in the world. Plus there is humor outside the box too!! You think yogis and shamans don’t crack jokes? Maybe you are taking this indoctrinated reality too seriously. But It’s just a ride!!

IMO it does not matter if they were recorded from Big Brother, a Terence Mckeena speech or Ocelot's magical microphone as long as they sound good and match the track's atmosphere. They are just words, it does not matter where they come from, what matters is their message and how they're used musically.
Samples deliver an specific message that noises, leads and bass lines can't transmit. As long as everyone don't sample the exact same lines in movies they will always be great to me.

Samples!!! What about that kick? its in every track.... Don't forget the Virus sounds,its also over played....
Samples do change and are current events.Not all movies are Hollywood and so what...How about another Matrix sample........ |
