would you rather hear an ally mcbeal sample?

ontopic - there is this very old track made by a local dj here, the sample used is that of a dealer who never lets you get a friend along with you when you go to score to his place. They recorded the conversation and used it as a sample. very effectively executed.

Nothing is said that has not been said before.

Perhaps, but some of the shit they come out with is fully trippy, especially when you hear it out of context in a track.

Anyway, Hollywood films seem to have manifestated the part of your psyches which doesn't like them, so in that respect they're as psychedelic as anything else!           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

because most musicians are stonned when they watch movies and the samples are to remind them that getting stonned is better than anything in this world except a blow job in middle of set           When death comes to your doorstep, make sure you are alive

Here's a perspective:

You're listening to this music that you can't really describe, nor will you really be able to remember the details of the track after the long weekend that you heard said track at. However it has this sample that is familiar to you and therefore you attach this point of familiarity to the track that you heard, making it something you can easily remember later on down the road.

As for recording your own samples, it can be done... but have you ever tried to record your own vocal work? It's very difficult and usually requires a little more recording savvy than the average home studio producer has. Hollywood has done all of that work for you in a sense that the vocal inflection is perfect, the audio recording is pristine, and usually the actor has a much better speaking voice than the musician does....

Finally as to "creativity".... Every culture has existed upon the ashes of the previous generation.

I'm sure this has been said, but sampling is one of the foundations of electronic music. Where would most forms of electronic music be without the shameless sampling of James Brown?

Like any sort of thing, it can be overdone. Samples only really bug me if it's been used in a whole bunch of tracks especially in the same genre... I know that many artists don't listen too much to other peoples stuff to find out whether this sample or that sample is used but there's a few out there that you know will be used too much. Personally, I always get a kick out of watching a movie and finding a sample used in someone's track... Also filler samples, you know stuff that's just there to take up room and has no real bearing on the feeling of the track...(unless its funny)

its a possibility to put messages that are important for us in the songs...

because in trance there is no chorus refrain chorus singing stuff

so where else should we take the massages?

btw. i try to create my own messages too without movie samples..

waking life, kill bill and fear and loathing in las vegas......way too many samples from these movies!!!

that said i still get a rise everytime i hear a fear and loathing sample (i guess i just love that movie too much).

We should create a list here of movies that have been oversampled
