i too am fucking tired of movie samples.
they suck and are stupid.

buy a little pocket voice recorder and make your own samples. the quality is suprisingly good and focused on the voice range usually... i use a little sony stereo dictaphone thingie just normal 1644 wav output...

to me, obvious and hollywood samples with their cheesy bad acting and melodramatic "sassy attitude" voices are very annoying and dumb.

people who identify with hollywood movie dialogue are by extension shallow and surfactory and the whole thing just makes a perfect complete loop...

hollywood samples are perfect for cheesy melodramatic music however. they can be very funny.
but for serious trancing they are more of a distraction than anything usefull.

they exist for one reason that Mubali already pointed out...

bear in mind that as music production gets easier and the styles accomodate ever shittier production and musicality standards you are not necessarily dealing with the product of much deliberate cerebral activity when you hear a track. perhaps thats all the artist can really say with their music- something they saw in a movie earlier that day... probably just sitting around watching tv, movies and playing videogames all day anyway...

demand more. search for the real cutting edge of thought and culture... its out there...

would you rather hear an ally mcbeal sample?

ontopic - there is this very old track made by a local dj here, the sample used is that of a dealer who never lets you get a friend along with you when you go to score to his place. They recorded the conversation and used it as a sample. very effectively executed.

so.. whats your point?

like allmost everything new its nice to hear but if more and more artist do the same thing just for saying its not the same

now what im wondering is.. how will you recognize the sample if you haven't heard/seen it in a movie. How can you tell for sure its NOT from a movie (assuming that the artist hasn't disclosed the source)? isn't there that element of surprise, or that curiosity to know where the sample is taken from when you hear it for the first time? wont there be an effort to understand the dialog and the context its used in? but in case its the neo superman sample off a movie we all have seen 1232218 times, we already know what it says.. the usual boring sample that another artist has used in another killer track.. get the point?           Nothing is said that has not been said before.

Samples are samples, and I love them.

IMO it does not matter if they were recorded from Big Brother, a Terence Mckeena speech or Ocelot's magical microphone as long as they sound good and match the track's atmosphere. They are just words, it does not matter where they come from, what matters is their message and how they're used musically.

Samples deliver an specific message that noises, leads and bass lines can't transmit. As long as everyone don't sample the exact same lines in movies they will always be great to me.

Psy-trance needs more samples from porn movies.
What sample would you rather coming out of the P.A. when you're checking out some stupidly fit bird? ...some random sample about drugs being cool (as if most people are not off their feckin' tits already)
or some porn star moaning "fuck my ass"?

I totally agree with psycatrist,Vector_0 and Ocelot.

I personally hate movie samples unless its something really special or if it's done in a really creative way. But generally when I am tuning into psychedelic frequencies the last thing I want to be reminded of is Hollywood. Talk about a total psy TURN OFF.

Ofcourse when you are under the influence of psychedelics you can find enlightment and truth in anything. It could be a coke comercial, and you will still be able to see it in a psychedelic way.

But why would an artist want to willingly stamp a hollywood movie sample in a perfectly psychedelic underground track? I mean why call out attention and feed energy to all that hollywood business that reeks of phoniness?

Can't you find something more fresh and genuine? Take your mic to the streets and ask people to express their soul. Go search for shamans and wise people who speak from the heart and record them. These voices will be much more original than your favorite movie.

Or express your own ideas but get creative and open your mind beyond the TV box because there is mostly mind numbing repetition there.

Keep it underground.

I dont think its worth taking things so seriously/literally... I mean, its just some guy/girl saying something on some movie stage.
What if its a hollywood production that made gazillions?
The last thing I thought when I first heard Laurence's voice out of Event Horizon saying "Its beautiful, its like liquid, slides all over everything, comes up in waves..wave after wave" (I am also "guilty" of having used this sample in a tune), is that I am feeding energy to the money grabbing industry that is hollywood. Its all about finding the "right" things to put in. Some people think its a cliche to have movie samples in trance tunes, I think its a cliche to hear Timothy or Terrence going on about expanding consciousness when you're on acid...yeah I know mate I am high as a kite this very moment...its a bit of an overkill, if you know what I mean...

At the end of the day if you can turn something negative, into something positive, then you've hit the spot.

Obviously its all a matter of taste and I appreciate people simply not liking movie samples, or anyone saying anything in trance tunes and that's fair enough.

But taking things so far as to think that such a small underground dance scene should not sample up market industries like hollywood, is a bit close minded, imho.

Don't forget that there's also the fun aspect that people enjoy. Shamans, gurus and serious psychedelic talk, is all nice like, but we need a bit of Homer Simpson in for good measure.

movie samples are often taken out of the
concept of the movie,
and import the sample in the context
of the album...

because there are so many movie samples,
the database of choice is high and
we get better samples...

lot's of them are from documentaries about
drugs and etc...

the history of lsd, what the bleep do we know...

so I see no point in complaining

you prefer infected singing live ?

go ahead rolft

There are many Tracks with nice samples, i think.

But I agree that this is too much in use nowadays. Sometimes it gets boring or stupid.

Samples out of the porn-industry ....
