Why Are you Listening to this music?

I've recently been asked by a collegue from work, why do i listen to this type of music or that type of music. I must say, at first i was cought short, and could'nt think of an adequate reason.
than i went home and started thinking. why do people listen to trance, or rock, or anything? i started by discerning the obvious "cause it's good music" factor and yet still I am looking for a straight answer.
I guess there are no simple explainations to this topic, but i would like to hear what other people here think, Why do you listen to this type of music.
is it because it helps you get a lift when your down?
is it because you like the beat?
is it because you underwent the goa trip and been embedded with the passion for this music?
tell me what you think

nup, its becoze u feel it at your heart.
i feel same with music, just pure love and alot of feels from different styles. sometimes my music closer to me, sometimes its bitching or going to directions i dont like, but we still and forever (thats a only different from a real woman  ) together.

Basically, I am addicted to the Beat...
Besides PsyTrance I am also listening to Break Beat, Big Beat, Elektro, Hip Hop, Dub, a few things in HardHouse etc etc etc..
But for Dancing again & again nothing for me is more efficient than Psytrance and its phat Bassline which enlight perfectly a 4:4 Kickdrum !
Before falling in love with it I used to be a Techno Party-Goer, but I turned fed up with it, and the atmosphere I used to find in the mid-90's in Techno parties has disappeared (IMO).
My first Goa_or_Psychedelic_Trance_or_call_it_how_U_like Party striked me so much that I couldn't imagine continuing in the "basic" techno way...
I need heat, I need tribal touch, I need shamanic moods, I need smiles, I need easy-to-connect-with people, I need Mystic, I need this fusion of influences that PsyTrance gave to me, and still gives each time I start Dancing with this neverending pleasure...
For me it is like an evidence, Psychedelic Trance is the Source.. my dancing machine  And no doubt that I am so much in it because of the Parties.. they are magik !

It opens my mind to new directions. When I first began to listen to trance, what hit me hard was the way each track told a story in a totally unique way. The subtleties, the nonconventional ideas, the way it digs deep inside my brain. The mind and the music meld into one thing. The fact that this music is an experience unlike anything else. It reaches deep into my mind, and showing me there's another way to think/feel/whatever that I haven't discovered before.
I must admit, as a veteran trancer, I already heard most of the tricks and ideas that are conveyed in the music, so nowadays, I have to search very hard to find a track that will do something that touches me in a way that I haven't been touched before - but it's still there. And that's what makes trance music wonderful - the fact that you can listen to it for ten years, and still find something new every day.

Here in sweden almost everyone listens to hardrock. at least i know many who do. and i want to be different. i dont want to be like everyone else and listen to that kind of musik. i have my own lifestyle and psy trance fits perfectly in it. and offcourse couse i love the wicked sounds and the beat.

zombie said it the best... and for me, its really not like you guys said (especially kaz ) its just that i don't find trance THAT deep. sure, i "go into" tracks somtimes and feel the beat but its not like you said.....

I admit, i am a man who likes to hear weird, intricate sounds and new approaches to music. That's why i a don't really like Rock music (I do, but it's really hard to impress me). Trance music is the genre where some artists link perfectly between the sound richness and music complexity. Offcourse i don't talk about all the music that is released out nowadays, but when i hear the tunes that got me hooked in the first time (Astral Projection - Damcing Galaxy and Hallucinogen - LSD) i still get the same sensations that i didn't get from listening to other Electronic music i listend to at the same time.
And even today, when the programmed sound rules and you get as much surprises in music as in the latest Britney Spears album, i still prefer it over anything else, because of the power factor.
5-6 good albums a year is still good ratio for me. That's as much as i can afford to buy.

It is hard to explain in English for me, but basically I listen to a certain kind of music as it represents something especial for my perceptions and my mind. They move me to feel a deep experience and to develop my thoughts. That is art imho!

I believe that any kind of music can "open your mind". If your mind is mean to be opened, it does not depends on the music you are listening at.
I like psytrance because I like the music and I like to hear this music at parties... I really like when I'm at a party and a track I like is played. These are my main reasons.
