Wow...this has to be one of the best threads on the site. Very nice read and a great deal of information of the good old days in Goa. Loved reading each page. Wish the thread starts back where it left off.           Mushrooms make you do crazy stuff. Look at Mario he jumps on animal heads and fights with dragons.

I met Antaro in 1986 in Goa, he was one of the first indeed, the very first was Laurent, then there was this other dude called Freddy and Gil.

Gil's dj art was not very well liked in the old days, the man himself was actually alright as far as I can remember.

Back then it was all cassette tapes, the first ever electronic party happened in 1985 by Laurent and was what is now called Detroit house music, we used to call it house music.

After Laurent (1985), and Gil (who came in 1986 with his first electronic set) it was mostly Osho sannyasins djing at the parties, Antaro, Amrit, Pushava, Sangeet and a few others suxch as Axel. In 1988 came the first idea of what we now call Goa trance, basically ambient music with a bassline.

The first vinyl djs in Goa were actually Pushava and Sangeet, Sangeet being from Berlin, and Pushava being from Glasgow.

Due to the cops and because of a few other reasons the party season was pretty much cancelled in Goa in January 89, which as a result made a lot of people move to Koh Pangan around February 89 I think it was...

The season there resulted in tracks like "They came in peace for all mankind" basically like mentioned above, ambient music with a bassline, around 90 bpm, in 89 it became around 120 bpm, even up to 130 bpm which we considered fast back then Another track called Axperience comes to mind,,, I think that one was in 1990, and also the first Juno Reactor stuff came, alongside acts such as Hallucinogen, 1989 or so... the music was eschanged between people back then via tape recordings which became real bad quality at times because it was rerecorded over and over again... that was the only way to get onto this kind of music...

In 1990 there came a strong influx of Israeli people, they could not enter India prior to 1990 because of visa restrictions, there were very few people from Israel who were there illegally prior to 1990, like the first owner of the Mango Shade Bar in Anjuna, which was very close to my hut... and where I used to hang out a lot...

After the Israelis came the place changed drastically and so did the music. It became a bit tougher and also the bpm went up to 140 bpm, which remained pretty much a maximum until the early 90s, like 93 or so...

Then happened the very first music festival in the west, some folks called Scotty, Antaro, Pravah, Harimurti and a few others (most of them osho sannyasins) had small gatherings during the summer months in their house in Hamburg, their house garden became way too small so they did another happening in a pub in a village, the parties became so successful that the whole village was full of party people, the cops came, party was cancelled and so on, they changed the location and the first Voov experience happened in 1989 near Hamburg... or was it 90??? not sue anymore, it was so long ago, but a lot of the folks who I met in Goa from 1986 until 1989 showed up there... It was a true underground gathering...

The first trance labels where Dragonfly, TIP and Spiritzone, not necessarily in that order...

I remember sitting on a bamboo platform or was it a hut??? in a place called Surrender Garden in 1987 in Koregaon Park, Poona and Antaro who stayed 3 huts down from me was about to go back to Hamburg, he closed his cassette case (with about 25 or so cassettes inside) and said that he was going to Hamburg now and opening a Goa music label, we all laughed at him, well, the labels name was Spirit Zone... and we weren't laughing anymore 2 or so years later

Thus are my memories from the early days of electronic dance music and the origins of how it developed into what we now know as the psy/goa trance genres...

Enough for today...

Hey guys,

Doing some research found this report from Dave Mothersole

http://www.bleep43.com/bleep43/2010/4/14/unveiling-the-secret-the-roots-of-trance.html

Very nice and you can check that even Laurent confirmed the story.
