imo in global u are right and less melodies in todays trance. u sure enjoyed back in 1998 when nitzhonot won trance (that was realy melodic year) and u enjoy less last two years.
music changed and took more minimal direction in global but Electric Universe still release albums,so get it and have fun
imo (im mostly minimal trance listener) alot minimal projects have very bad melodies - truth. in the running after good bass line ppl forget about melo lines. but u have to hear Haldolium that have great trance melodies.
u also check some Sonic Body stuff for tottaly melodic trance. and its new...
to ron35 - sorry man, u sounds pretty negative on your message. and tottaly non objective. take our gang for example (average age is 27 or something) and we all prefer progressive tunes. so,dont worry ppl still remember partys like u.. and about boom festival u can tell whatever u want but their last festival (2000) was the first big event that included "unkown" (then) acts and dj's like Atmos, Anti, S-Range, Antaro so not so full on line they had last time. i was saying that they was pretty super progressive event for those times. go to their forum and read how ppl cry there about that it was "tekno" festival..well, i got my point ??
back to melodies or their less - for me i do a favor and listen to Free Form records stuff that have always amazing melodies no matter how many BoomPerMinute it. take Space Safari or Klagnstrahler projekt albums and listen to Goa of our days. softy, flow and full of melodies trance (not full on)..
enjoy anyway

well..
i was a fan of the old goa trance music..
but it was only untill i found the new techno-trance and minimal-trance..
when i first heard Hux-Flux and Logic-Bomb it changed everything, i didn't believe how good trance music can be..
and now i can't listen to the "old-style"-trance..
techno trance and minimal is the best trance music i know..
melodies i hear in rock music..
melodies get all of the TECHNO and the Electronic out of the track, it gets more like "real music"..
i love the unhuman voices running in my speekers in stereo...
i like the psychedelic of it..
try to listen and understand...

House = melodies ? what is this nonsense?
listen up - There are many House and Club House tracks without almost any melodies.
and Trance Goa melodies are not really to compare with House 'easy harmonie' melodies.
When you ppl will understand that a melody that is interesting and well put - in trance - this is the trance melody - not some kind of club chord here and some full on cheese there.
Everything said here of course IMHO

ananda,
BABA GOA GIL would be very upset on your words
just kidding,
i think the right melody can give alot of power to a track, if its done psychedelic enough.
thanks for listening

melody is good in the correct place in the same way i like to eat at lunch time, if you know what i mean
if you really wanted to analyse why there are less melody driven tracks around today than in '97 you would be asking a question about musical fashion... and like all fashion this is a fickle beast it will change again, and in two years time i guarantee we will have threads in this forum titled 'what happened to minimal?'
(answer: it got so minimal you've been listening to the same track for a month and there hasn't been a beat for two weeks ha ha ha )

Hmmm, dunno about House = melodies. Like Trip- said, maybe "easy harmonies", but not the intense layering that good psy trance contains.
But I don't think that melodic music has "gone", like Tom says, it's just not in fashion. That's alright, cause fashions come and go and usually come again. There's still great melodic stuff being written in a variety of ways, from Texas Faggott: 'Lady's Night' to Zorba feat Chicago: 'the Rush'... it's all good. Trust in Trance |

I have a feeling that melody will return, as some of you said, its like a cycle, and when it returns it will be a little different... im waiting for the reurn.

i think there is good trance and bad trance. some of each have melodies and some of each do not. personally i like progressive in the morning. and to ron, ive been at outdoor parties where ppl were kicking up plenty of dust to iboga artists. but anyways, i think this is too braod a discussion. im going to go listen to some jazz, now that is where we can find nice melodies, or protoculture, either one. . .PEACE

The melody afraids me very often... Because it can rapidly sink the track and make it sound like a Paul Van Dyk, or any other Mainstream Trance...
The melody in Dance Music is something I don't really get, as it's breaking the vibration. But it's not that easy to explain.. the problem comes from the sound, the seed chosen for this melody.. I mean synth, pads and the likes just sound horrible, and immediately remind me the MayDay sounds... There are too few artists trying to go beyond the melody...
In example : about two year ago I've seen Derrick May deejaying.. (father of techno together with Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson) in a Christmas party...
An he played a track with trumpets. And it was just OUSTANDING ! Couldn't believe my hears... the combination of this instruments of a very complex melody (that's also what I reproach to the trance artists : their melodies are just way toooooo simple..) with a pounding techno track was just magic.. Enormous risings, big devastating breaks, and this so surprising but efficient trumpet.
B R A V O !
There are many others examples... So prefer when the trance artists make good stomping tracks without melodies, than trying to do some... and bungle what could have been a good track.
