Not all of us were grew up in/around the psychedelic realm... most of us discovered it and its various dimensions somewhere along the journey between not knowing... and knowing who we are.

These journies are individual as people who made them, but all of us found something that made us stick.

Looking back to the times before you knew this truth... what do you think where the first signs of this personal awakening?? forget subliminal messages... what where the moments in your life that, if you had known then what you know now, would have made sense to you in a totally different way
... i hope that makes some sense.

I'll start:

the sports that i chose to persue as a child...
how?
i played everything, but i was always into gymnastics, diving and towards the end of school life, pole vault
why?
I think i've always had a thing for being off the ground... i love the feeling of not being physically connected to anything. when i used to dive, the feeling of being free in the air to move in any direction before hitting the water... was THE thrill for me. gymnastics for the same reason... i loved to fly over the vault or flip in the air. Pole vault - samething.
Now?
one of the things i look forward to most on the psytrance dancefloor is the null before a break... you know the suck out of sound before a smashing beat blows you away whenever i manage to catch it i flyyyy.... jump as high as i can and land on the bassline... its the bessst !!!

what say peeps ?

Before: .... - 1999
About 5-6 years ago, before I discovered the real meaning of trance in my life, and before I even discovered the trance itself, I enjoyed playing the guitar, I learned myself how to play, so I printed alot of my Metallica favoraite songs tabs (chords), and learned to play step-by-step.. That was the thing that intrested me the most..

After: 1999 - 2005
I discovered trance about 5-6 years ago, with Infected Mushroom, and later on to artists like
S.U.N Project, GMS, Skazi, Cosma etc..
With time I got to know other artists, like my favoraites artists at the moment, Shift, Azax Syndrom, Penta etc..
Now I just like to jump and dig at parties, listening to the sound, and merge with it, see the vibes, see the entrences, see the music in people (without any chemical or herbal use heh)..
Also I just like to grab my electric guitar and just go wild while appropriate trance on background..

By the way, very nice idea for a thread heh =)

I don't mean for this to come out wrong, but you know "THE TRUTH" now? I am very curious.           Load Universe into Cannon. Aim at Brain. Fire.

nice thread....
well when i look back now, i know the fact that i've always loved to dance...that although i pursued the formal forms (ballet/ jazz and studio hip hop) I really came alive while dancing under the moon on the beach or in a crazy cramped ware house where the energy made you part of everyone as a whole and you were one person not a million. I've always been into rock, electronic was only my medium to move...but in the past 2/3 years ive met more and more people who really are all about psy...and through them ive been able to learn more about the culture and the history and ive started to appreciate it as a lifestyle. I'm still just another normal happy person who has a normal life and does regular things- but then i have this other side, that sees more of the world, accepts more of it, and wants to live ten fold her life every day:)

its my truth... whatever the connection i hold with this music... thats where i find my personal meaning for living the life i have chosen.

I guess you shouldn't take it too literally, but truth in this context can be subtituted for fact.

Unless, of course- the fact is that you don't really like this music....

The truth i know is that this sound captivates my body and mind... and i love it

peace<3

because most trancers dance like rigor mortis corpses on bungy cords manipulated by some troll sitting in the heavens above.

Actually I enjoying dancing but I also enjoy watching good dancers, people with really fluid motion and coordination.

Plenty of ex-ravers demonstrate that super waving, rubbery, pantomime thing that's cool to watch.

Beyond that, a trance party (especially a nature one) is a good venue to have peak experience say using Hoffman's brew. Personally I can't say that just listening to the music "opened my third eye", when I first heard psytrance I immediately recognized it as something I had been musically searching for- a good driving rhythmic techno-ish dance music with lots of compositional depth. Needless to say, I was excited. Later that night, tripping, I had a more profound experience just sitting in tall wheat grass in the dark greeting the ravers bouncing by like Gnomelike tourists with their LED accessortized clothing, taking short fast small steps and talking in short, fast, small bursts of speech.

Thru trance parties i have met a large number of neuronauts and diverse people, whose very presence and interaction has opened my head.

sorry to be the party pooper, but looking back I only see a big illusion that was probably contributed to major use of halucinogenics + shitload of childish innocence.
I also believed that trance set me free, made me a a more open, better person. Believed in the unity of the trance tribe, in the essence of 'the dance' ritual and all those things. Believed that everybody was equal and 'beautiful' in this scene.

And I'm also very happy to have been awakened from this 'true' world, to have realized that trance is only music, that the people who like this type of fun can be nice, can be nasty, can be groovy and also can be real drug heads stuck in a halucination from 10 years ago.

There is nothing more spiritual in psytrance than any other kind of music; 'spirituality', as you might call it, comes from within and not from a outside source. There is nothing special in it musically besides the fact that it has a distinctive sound and structure.
I'm sure there are still places where the true ritual of the dance is still performed as it was originally, in true intentions and pure, honest heart; but mostly it is a fake scene with exactly the same hierarchy and structure as in any other scene.

I won't say that I haven't got any good memories from participating in trance parties or being a part of the culture, but the main point is that it was good for a certain part of my life, yet I am happy to have grown out of the illusion in it and not really looking back in sadness.

again, I'm sorry if this reply doesn't follow the intended spirit of the topic, and I wish you all many years of partying and enjoyment in what you belive in.

cheers,

Agree 1000% Helen

Everybody hopefully wake up at one point and find out that it was one big illusion casued by various drugs and false "love and peace".

Music is music - no more and no less.

As opposed to the clear-headedness that we have when we are "sober", when we see everything really the way it is, and can love some while hating others in order to survive in this harsh harsh world.           Load Universe into Cannon. Aim at Brain. Fire.

Yes, that sarcasm was directed at you HandA even though I think that you are right a lot of the time. However, generalizing like you did is extremely wrong imo.
Of course some ppl are fooled by a drug-induced state; but the bigger illusion occurs when we succumb to a much more powerful drug addiction, an addiction to the norms of society. Free yourself, whether it be with trance music or bluegrass.           Load Universe into Cannon. Aim at Brain. Fire.

and one thing i've learned is how our attitudes alter the world in which we see and experience and ultimately the world bestows upon us...karma if you will. I'm constantly neutralizing my acidic cynicism.

The drug-induced state is not the end, it is only a demonstration of alternate cognitive pathways which can yield new knowledge itself and of the understanding of the fragility of the foundation of our egoic basis.

Plus, there are pleasurable drug-induced states in such a way to enhanced a sense of empathy. Even if you regard this mode to be a cardboard facade you can still re-evoke the mental and sense memories to help foster compassion even in the baseline state. As my friend the Cosmik Dancer says "remember to remember".

Don't take my word, just ask the shaman and medtative traditions of the last eon.

Psytrance just happens to be genre that likes to explicitly dwell on these concepts, albeit loosly via samples of McKenna, Leary, Amazonian shamen, etc.

There are lessons to be learned, even in this forum, although there's plenty 'o crap to wade through.
