What RECORD LABEL does besides taking my money?

i see many of you know stuff about record labels.. please share your thoughts, its important for me.

as far as i can see, these are the things which label may provide as exchange for artist's payment:

1. Advertisement
2. Parties
3. Manufacturing
4. Sound Mastering
5. Distribution
6. Covers Design
7. Help with getting ACUM
8. Anything else?

now.. what if i dont need help with all this?
all those things i may easily perform by myself:

1,2. I got a lot of friends, friendly djs and connections on a few radio stations to advertise my music

3. I got a way better prices for cd manufacturing and digital print, then my label may provide to me

4. I mix and shape all my music by myself, i will never let any other human to get his hands on it (even if its "da best sound engineer"). Dont ask why, i got my reasons

5. I may bring my discs to local music stores as well (300+ stores isnt that much) and meanwhile im not interested to sell my discs abroad.

6. I create all the graphix for my disc covers by myself and im not interested to let someone do it for me (even money free!)

7. I may deal with ACUM by myself pretty good

8. so what you say?
why the hell do i need record label, if i may perform MOST of the things it does by myself, while still having plenty much time for producing music?

(to make a situation a bit more clear: i got a contract for my 1st album with small israeli lable. Nowadays i got 1 more album and now im at the middle of very tight album which will be better then anything i've done ever before...
i dont feel like signing a contract for those 2 discs with ANY label (even the best and the biggest one) - i wish to distribute it by myself, without sharing money with half of the world

Besides all, i guess if the music is worthy - it doesnt really matter which label produces
and distributes it and if its not - you may release it on any label, and it wont help.

THANKS FOR YOUR TIME

Man i won't agree with you on paragraph 4. Simply beacause never matter how talented you are (and you are), you haven't the proper hardware at your home to finalize your projects. your tracks maybe heard Blast at your appartment but they will be heard very messy and unproffesional in big venues or outdoors. That's were mastering and EQ'ing goes in. It's all about making it sound better.
Nothing wrong with it. Everybody's doing it. Not every good artist is also good sound technician.

Besides who said you can't release stuff by yourself? If you already wanna do everything by yourself...
Check Skazi for example, he has his own label, and he releases everything he wants. Which is not much but it's mostly very good material.
Cheers.           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

i have a question 4 u Detox, y does he need 2 open his own label if he wants 2 do all this on his own? y does he need all the un-neccessery biourocracy and shit? y does he need an office with a fax machine, 2 phone lines, a logo or whatever? y cant he simply make it on his own without a label? and whenever some 1 can reach him, he can do it directly with him...

I think that if there is nth 2 big that can pose as an obsticle then u r on a verge of a breakthrough in the music buisness....           "...God made weed, Man made booze. Who do u trust?..."

Kenneth. who said opening a label is beuracracy?
all he has to do in order to open a label is press some CD's and get a sore to try and sell them.

that's enough.           Kinetic Honda GmbH, Worldwide Supliers of Quality noise.

so pay someone a bit of money to master the album if thats such an issue... the label doesnt have to be the one to do that.

really, the future would be nice if more artists were self-distributed either over the net or in stores... is anyone competently using the internet yet? it is funny that for such digital and forward-thinking music so many labels/artists have poor unfrequently updated web pages... of course, the key factor in the decision of whether to go it yourself or try with a label is TIME. yes you can do all that stuff yourself but it is time-consuming... i imagine many artists simply don't want to deal with any business aspect - making music is the best part of it all, so why not focus there?

good luck brainstorm!

it just wont work... thats it.

u have no idea what it means for an artist when a big label is "pushing" his music.

and another thing...

And what record store will buy your cd's to sell them?
Someone who they do not know, doesn't have the support of a label behind him.. Don't know about them but I wouldn't buy music from someone like this.

Why not, Analog Pussy did that (and then started releasing other people's stuff) so did deviant species. some labels started as producers who wanted to release their own stuff and keep all controll. Son Kite+Ticon in MPDQX for instance.           Kinetic Honda GmbH, Worldwide Supliers of Quality noise.
