What happened to the real hippies from the 60s?

Even though it seems we've drifted off-topic we really haven't because we're getting into a discussion that was a common theme in the 60's. In some ways, we're talking about things that the radicals of 60's spoke and wrote about. Ok, radicals of the early 20th century too, Trotsky etc. Remember (uh um), in the 60's, the college kids were carrying around Chairman Mao's little red book. Opinion: It's not that commercialism is the cause of bad but the ill in men's hearts combined with the enabling capabilities of capitalism has the capacity to wreak leveraged (more) havoc. The basic socialist idea (not hard-core socialist) is not allow the weak (generalized) to be crushed, to provide some basic level of support and possible the means to bootstrap out of their fiscal class- in the US this takes the form of student loans and grants. Those more inclined will foster more than those with no motivation. Yes, there are practical problems here. To cap things off, let's just say that I know the difference between "fair pricing" and "market pricing". It's the simple difference between giving an old synth to a friend or trying to scam as much as I can on ebay for it.

Let's just say i'm a half-assed-half-yuppie-half-naked-undercover-freakzoid-hippie-burner. With purple hair.

And be sure to order your copy of Onnomon's "No Monno" at all your favorite psytrance retail outlets, or through me. Fair pricing!

-D

I guess it's on topic as well, because I'm one hippy kid at least carrying on a bit of what learned from my parents, so all my ranting would prove that there is something still living on from their ideas.
My mother lives in india, singing hindu devotional songs and doing yoga and my father is a old psychedelic rock musician.
(Honguito: you might know of fläsket brinner, träd gräs och stenar or the bosse hansson stuff, otherwise check it out)

Ok, so now I feel we can finally agree a bit mono
I was never saying that money needs to be bad, only commercialism.
In my mind anyway commercialism is when the system is based around money.
To use money as part of a different system doesn't need to lead to bad.

And it doesn't have to be socialism because it's not commercialism. I can see though that with the way I describe the old feudal system makes it sound similar in some ways.
Socialism is very forced, and the change needed to make changes in the structure has to come from people themself.

The main thing is , I beleive, that people actually do things because they think it does good in some way.
Sure you can make a product and sell it for money.
But if you made the product for the purpose of actually providing something usefull to others, you wouldn't care about market priceing, and charge the minimum you need to.
And many people would quit their job immediatly.
Wheather they are involved with money or not is of no importance.

Anyway, I think it's important that people try to be visionary and have a proper think about history and where we are going.
If there is no vision, things just don't change.
There is many systems of society that have lasted longer than our current one. Obviously none of them lasted, and needed to be replaced.
To me, and the hippes, it became obvious that our current system isn't lasting as well, and we need to figure something new out. The hippies at least tried, but many times failed miserably.

I still belive that we can have a new paradigm shift, and maybe all that is required for that to happen is that some people start actually visualizing how it could work.
If we can't be bothered to think about it and just accept the system we have, we don't stand much chance anyway.

as one of the previous posts state, some are still struggling within the current system, to change things from inside.

some on the other hand have not been able to deal with living in a system that they dont agree with.
they escaped from the current "modern" world and ended up wherever they could find peaceful existence with nature, place where material strength has no voice, just chilling with friends in a commune.           `Bottomless wonders spring from simple rules, which are repeated without end` Mandelbrot

-I believe in a world without money (for thousands of years, it has always been like this)

-I accept a world with money, IF everybody gets it...(if the objective is to provide the needs to every human been, why are the governments leaving hundreads of thousands africans starving to death?!?)

-I am truely thankfull to the 60's hippies, thanks to them this late XX century young generation got some positive and well oriented filosophies of living (with or without drugs), maybe the roots for what we believe to be a better world....

-i DONT believe in this corrupted "open market capitalism society" that is realy killing our planet, while trying to manipulate the true and free human spirit, our own consciounsness, our own individuality...

-i do believe that someday......well....someday!!!

...i...t...'s.......a...l....l........a....b...o....u...t.......$....$....$..!!!!!

ps - i dont know why, but has i get older, the words of jesus are starting to make real sence to me.....am i becoming a christian?!?

You can still find some of them in Goa if you know where to look...

one of the first 'hippies' there, is still there, he's pretty old.... they call him 8-finger Eddie.

he really does have only 8 fingers (always did)

then there's Mushroom Jack... arguabley makes the best magic mushroom extract. killer trip
highly concentrated stuff... just 3ml mix in water and ready to go...

most of the old timers that do still exist in Goa, actually dont take that many drugs (any more)...
thats probably why they are still around.

one of the most 'famous' Richard Green... he was so far out that he's not allowed back into India... he's in London somewhere now. British guy from manchester.. with a huge beard, he used to come to parties dressed up as an Arab Sheikh... (?!) you would see him three days later, still stumbling around, his white gown now telling stained stories of all the places he had been.

then there was Sky Rainbow... her name says enough....           www.facebook.com/DjJanux
