Will you ever understand that Unreleased music doesn't make you a better DJ. if you want a remix of Nerve- Chanell 59 Do it yourself, in the mix. if you really DJ (Not MD's or DAT) and trully mix (over a minute with two faders open) you really don't need unreleased trax. noone will recogdnise anything that you play since you will mix it up that much that it will become new.
stop the DAT mafia. support your local Groovers.

it's so true ...
i think that a dj who play only or mostly unreleased track has no confidence in his skills
an unreleased one doesnt make it a good one...
& shahar nice to know u'r from australia this week ;)

Hay! well I'm from Japan now. ;)

anyhow - I agree. it takes time for people to realize that many of the spreaded unreleased tracks sucks bigtime. I mean, no wonder it's unreleased. not even a single label want to release it.. :)

My point - I just like to play music, to give something to ppl. And the reason why I get unreleased sometimes is just because I want to listen to it all! :)
Released music is faaaar enough for everyone to play.

Honda has a point here.

There is no problem of having couple unreleased tracks during a set. But to play all of it of an unreleased tracks looses much of the feel. It doesn't bother me too much if I recognise the track btw.. Couple of weeks ago on Noam's birthday I had much fun to hear some tunes from 95 in Nadi's morning set - one of them was Slinky Wizard - Supernatural ( ' We have established contact with planet earth ' ) and this 7 year old track literally wiped the floor - so it doesn't really matter what u put.. what matters it is how you put it.

BTW I am looking for some unreleased GMS.. just kidding ;-)

I agree. I also like hearing more familiar tracks and older that were party smashers in the good times. brings you many good memories, and I can't think of a better place than a party to have those good memories rise again. :)
I don't mean an entire retro set but one that combines both new and old tracks.

as for GMS's unreleased, why bothering?? all their unreleased sounds the SAME as their new released stuff. ;) ;)

there`s sometimes a reason why a tracck is unrealised.
another bad thing about trance dj most will not play classic old tracks.
i try as much as i can to mix some old classic - those tracks r classics since they r very good.
new stuff mainly sucks.

play good music- not unrealsed music!

Thats is not totally true...
Point Kinetic made is true..
There are so many tracks out there that are released that you dont need unreleased music...
But most of the Big DJ'S are playing not shit unreleased but great tracks from diffrent labels.
If they are playing a 2 hour set. They combine at least half thier set with beats you've never heard. Most people come to parties and want to hear a new sound. Especialy if the DJ is closing the party... Not the same sound as before.. Some people like the old memories... It all depends on the person.

But Unreleased definatly has some nice pre concieved ideas down on CD/DAT/MD.

As a DJ I feel you mix and match everything
and if you are a good DJ you dont really need the unreleased... It's mostly just about track selection and beat matching along with KNOWING YOUR MUSIC!

-----------------------------------------------

And in space there are other factors...

Xcuse me please but I gonna raise one more point ( I am not objective in this one )...

I really think that the DJ's should back off a little from the unreleased music and let the artists play their tracks. Then all the so called 'order' will come back to normal - which is:
DJ's work hard at home on vinyl/CD mixing ( BEATMIXING ) and improve their technique and give their crowd a challenge and a true story.
Artists work hard at home and make new tracks they can put in their sets and so always keep 'em fresh and not boring.
This way the artists won't have to become DJ's and that will b very nice coz they are not - it's two completely different things.

Some people seriously think that this is all about unreleased :( This sucks big time!
I don't care if it's unreleased or not, I care if I like it or not. That's the point. And about unreleased madness, I hate stories about stealing music and selling unreleased tracks.
Many people really forgot the meaning of what they do....

hi I have to reply to a few issues that came up here
first of all I play both dats and vinyls if possible in my sets and being critic about my self and of course not meaning to brag or something I got myself quite a good reputation as a dj (even when I play only with dats)
I think I play usually very flowing sets and groovie enough for the people dancing
so in my opinion you should not judge a dj by what devices he uses but by the way he playes
second, concerning the unreleased stuff:
again from my very own experience a good old released track can boost up a whole party as can an unreleased track. being overconcentrated on playing unreleased stuff may cause discommunication with the crowd cause as a partyman when you are dancing full on drugs a nice familiar sound can get you safely and happily through the night.
in conclusion: for the normal party crowd it normally doesnt matter what you play as long as you do it right and pass your message along

 BOM BOM

Nadi first of all I hope we will still be friends after what I have to say. (and I've said it to you in private in the past).
I'll start with a statement. Mixing isn't just to go from one track to the other. you create something new during the mix!!!!
Anyone can be a DJ yes. BUT to be a really good DJ track selection isn't enough, you need to inovate during your sets. there are two ways to do this A play only new, never before heard tunes and remixes. or B construct your own remixes as you play. as we know you can only beatmix on vinyl, CD, (with pitchable CD's) and posible also MD (with the Sony MDS-DRE1 DJMD). constructing remixes is a skill that is dependant on beatmixing, and long long mixes.
also when beatmixing you have a much better flow of the set the buildup of the set can be much more fluent. so I'm sorry to say if you don't beatmatch, mix and inovate you are NOT a DJ, you are a music editor.

Well Kinetic my friend, I hope we still stay friends after what I gonna state... he he he

1. Nadi ( as far as I know ) beatmixes on vinyl and does it GOOD and GROOVIE

2. He decided to play DAT's coz that is his way of life and belief and well let's say it's definitely not up to U to set up the standard for WHAT IS GOOD and WHAT IS NOT

3. There is more to a DJ than to know how to spin well and u, my dear, haven't reached that level ( Nadi btw did ;-) )

Cheers big ears
