Soooooo after years of listening to psybient & psychill I'm stepping out and wanting to explore proper ambient music.

Steve Roach has been my first step. I've had lots of contact via emai and spent a relatively large amount on a package of music he is selecting for me from his catalogue. Should arrive shortly

I prefer drones, space ambient and pure electronic (esp. Modular based as it's what I'm getting in to production wise).

Any tips on artists and albums? With the and with our the psy scene recommended.

I also have plenty of Ishq & his side project           Cuntus Maximus.

Top names:
Pete Namlook
Klaus Schulze (active since 1972)
Geir Jenssen and all of his projects (Biosphere on first place, of course)
Tetsu Inoue

For me, those are masters of ambient. There are plenty more of them, but this is just fine for the begnining. Also, many of them released large number of albums (Schulze more then 60, Namlook 135 albums) so it is pretty hard to recommend some
Check out also Aphex Twin ambient works.
Cheers,
Milos.           www.soundmute-recordings.com

Cool. I'm gonna get some of La Vie Electronique series by Klaus to start out.

They sound amazing from the clips I've found. Time to start sinking into the deep ambient spectrum!           Cuntus Maximus.

No, this was just fun, to show you your own behaviour.

Klaus Schulze - Irrlicht (first album of him, so possibly a must have for the ambient history)
some of the cloudcycle stuff, I suppose
Elve
Evan Bartholomew
Frequent Sync
some of the Healer-tracks
Hummingbird

and so on (got a phone call)

Hi Oz Mike, beatless ambient can be a more rewarding listen esp while working.

I enjoy the work of Max Corbacho, and there is a large body of work by Oophoi who died recently well worth exploring for serious deep drones.

I am also enjoying the latest bluetech ambient release.

Checkout Cryo Chamber if you find yourself liking really dark ambient.

Pretty interesting label, if i remember good it is founded by Simon Heath aka Atrium Carceri and his best releases are on Cold Meat Industry (but now i see that all of them you can digital buy on cryochamber) so check that label too, since Cold Meat Industry is probably best dark ambient label in history.
Ptahil by Atrium Carceri is a must have
Raison D'etre works are also some or the masterpieces of dark ambient (Requiem for Abandoned Souls my personal favorite).           www.soundmute-recordings.com

Most of that CMI stuff sounds like a pale comparison to Lustmord, to me. "The Word As Power" is his best new release since 1993's, "The Place Where The Black Stars Hang", in my opinion. Amazing counterpoint of chanting/throat singing with his custom bass drones (that put Dubstep "drops" to shame...)

But it's very dark shit, I really have to be in the right mood for it!           http://hermetechmastering.com : http://www.discogs.com/artist/Gregg+Janman : http://soundcloud.com/babaluma

Hey OzMike,

I did not write, that you promote downloading music illegally. I just referred to the Padmasana-topic (http://forum.isratrance.com/new-padmasana-album/page4/) in which you said, that I am an asshole and that I probably dowload my music illegally.

Hey Gunter no need to be an ass about it, it's not our fault Gio is trying to increase sales & decrease piracy. (...) Wait a few days and you can continue being an ass wipe & download the tracks illegally somewhere I'm sure.

So, you basically said, that I am an asshole, who probably is willing to download music illegally, just because I said, that the teaser for the Padmasana album is too short for me. And that`s why I call this behaviour harsh and showed the same behaviour which you did to me back to yourself.

I just wrote this, so that you might understand what I mean. beacause I have the feeling that you don`t understand.

If I am wrong, then sorry

Anyways, I am also checking out the recommendations of the others.

Pete Namlock of course is a very good choice too.

Babaluma, a bit weird, that you say that I am confrontational, because OzMike is the one who was confrontational and I am just trying to explain, why I think that this was harsh and very unfriendly behaviour. Please don`t be so confrontational, Babaluma (kidding). Even so he "attacked" me in this forum (other topic), calling me an asshole out of nothing / without any reason and visible for all, I of course follow your suggestion and go pm.

Anyways, even so this feels like 100 % kindergarden, my mind still says that I should clear that situation.

On Topic: I listend through all releases of Cryo Chamber while working today. I really love them. Thanks for this hint
