Actually just to add some twist to this:
Dont you just hate it when the dj that plays before you complaints about you setting up your gear during his set?
I mean who-the-fuck do he think he is ? First of all there are plenty of talentless dj's out there who dont complain ! ! ?
The "why didnt you do it before the party" is looser mentality, i was in my limo snorting coke ffs.
- And as Elad says, im not gonna leave a laptop in the presence of a DJ with an attitude or anywhere else.

Think about how easy your job is, all you do is sliding that cd in... while others actually have to travel, carry, connect etc. etc.

So to sum it up, you are mostly wrong... and i met this mentality while connecting my gear in silence, trying my best not to disturb.
However i do agree that all the other "fuck-faces", that would be organizers, fans, jerks, photographs, friends etc. etc., should back off.           www.parvati-records.com

Well i think that is exactly the point here...of course everyone has to set up his/her gear...what sucks is the crowd that comes along with it...and the constant moving behind you!!! 10m before your time, you step there connect your stuff and leave, no need for a family reunion in the stage. And of course sometimes there are exceptions, problems to solve, whatever...but as rule, IMHO, the stage should be a closed area as much as possible!!!!

I've got the PERFECT solution to this problem:

JUST AMBIENT MIX YOUR TRACKS!           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

even better, have double setups on stage... linemixer, cables, double dj setups and lots of space and there won't be any problems..

I can agree with palex, its a pain mixing while some other dude is dealing cables behind the mixer and rearrenging everything.

"-hey dude, can you hold the mixer for a minute"

yes its a pain mixing and be concetrated at what you do when you have 10 people next to you trying to plug their equipment
and its even a bigger pain in the ass when everybody has an opinion about how this should be done
the best thing is to discuss that with the organized before the party begins
in fact the best thing is to talk with the organizers before the gathering begins about everything
free entrances free drinks timetable switch at the console soundcheck
because its his job to take care of things like that
but the worst thing at the party is when the bunch comes to plug their equipment and u also have some dude watching what you do and another dude who keeps asking if u have the last universe
and if u can play it.....again and again
GET OVER IT ITS 2008 FOR FCKS SAKE

If you poop behind the stage, no one will be there unless they absolutely have to....           http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

Some people react differently depends of their own experience behind the decks....

My own is simple....

I just LOVE when there's loads of peeps behind me on the decks specially djs and other artists... It makes me play even better, i even try crazier shit.... Dont you just love that competition specially when you DO control the decks LOL... Got some nice pics of artists with their WOW faces on... AHAHAH the wonderful world of being able to beatmatch, mix properly and use fxs and filters for more than 20 SECONDS(depending on which mixer)... LOL

Palex just create your ZONE... The artist (dj/vj/live acts/nonlive acts) are there to WORK... LOL... friday night humour sorry...

BOOM... My 2 Cents.

Including the DJ himself, and "playing a set" isn't a good enough excuse for sure hehe

Whatever man, you're not epic until you've played a 4 hour set with a pile of poop next to you.

This way you can prove to people that your shit don't stink.          http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound
