Too many DJ's on the line-up???

The topic speaks for itself. Each DJ tells his own story and works around a different mind trip of the dancer. Is a 1 hour - 1.5 hour set really enough for a DJ to convey his set's story? I personally dont think so. A two hour set IMO is perfect. No offense to Mindoutpsyde, the party coming up in IOWA on Friday is already making me orgasm! But hey dont u think there are waaay too many DJ's on the line up? 8 acts playing for approximately 13 hours im guessing, with 3 DJ's playing 1 hour sets each, are these meant to be fillers or whats cooking exactly? This is a trend ive noticed in a lot of mid-west line ups. Would like to hear everyones views on this. Much love

Do you bitch about everything? You just come to the midwest and now everyone doesn't dance and the lineups are not what you want. Hate to break it to you but we are just happy to have SOMETHING in the midwest and we have a saying here, "Those with new ideas on how to do events are organizers"

How can you notice a lot of midwest events? How long have you been going to them? One event? Is a 3 hour set to short for you from Ocelot? Is 3 hours too short for Primordial Ooze? Maybe you can notice that the live acts are getting near 3 hours each..

Maybe you should do your own events since nothing is as you like in the midwest. You have been here, what, 2 months? You were not here when we had NOTHING (that was only 2 years ago). You should be grateful there is an amazing event coming up and just dance and enjoy it instead of spreading negativity.

not to speak for the midwest whatsoever, but i see this in cali parties a lot too.
any trance dj set should be at least 2 hours long, preferably 3. that is my "humble opinion." dj hydroponik played a 4 hour set this last weekend in the mojave and by the end i really felt like i had been witness to some ultra-feature length abstract film. totally wonderful.

@Eklypz hehe easy mate, are we having periods or what? Firstly if u think im starting these topics without musical background, your highly mistaken..Where have i ever mentioned im unsatisfied by the line up??? It just had to do with the number of the DJ's, not the quality of them..I stated very very clearly i meant no offense of whatsoever, absolutely no problems with Ocelot or Primordial Ooze for 3 hours each, both can kick some serious ass without doubt. I am incapable of organising my own events so kudos to the organisers for that. I think you got my whole point wrong, i wasnt talking about the lack of parties, or the quality of them, as dog of tears said a set should be atleast 2 hours long, a DJ set isnt about talking 10-12 dancefloor bombs and banging them one after the other for an hour, anyone could do that including you and me. If you have seen the party scene around the world you will VERY rarely find a DJ playing a set thats one hour long... A set that is 1 hour long doesnt allow a DJ to put planning behind his set, its way too short. I also dont see how i am spreading negativity, its a completely neutral topic, open for opinions, its a fuckingg forum for god sake, meant for open discussion. I still think the point i made has enough grounds to be discussed. Its better that you dont give your smart ass comments if you have nothing better to say. Take a chill pill mate

agreed - 1 hour is way too short for a proper set. 1.5 hours minimum, 2 hours is a good length. And in 3 hours you can actually build a proper journey.
          ..it's just another party..

The lineups been tuned to suit the crowd and the DJs.

Most people dont land up before 10pm so if DJs are present at the party and are willing to add to the console there is nothing wrong with having 1 hr sets till the point that the dancefloor fills up. I'm playing a one hour slot too and I'm not complaining!

On the other hand it takes a 2 - 3 hour set to really tell a story when it comes to Psytrance. Especially with the 10 min tracks that artists are releasing these days.

The midoutpsyde guys know what they're doing, so shaddup and dance.

@ rao. If you do ever get the chance to play in the midwest the first thing you're probably going to get is a one hour slot. So you'll have to learn to make the most of what you have.

If you had chance to play 1 hr set or don't play at all what would you do (especially when you are not one of worldwide recognized djs/producers)?

PS. Most people on the dancefloor don't care if dj spins for 1, 2 or 5 hrs.           http://www.chillumafia.com
