If you see then most of the people who got 1 hour set are new djs...They have been just playing for some time now its a good way to start.

The main acts always gets longer duration, happened the same with the Mubali party too.           Discover.Vote.Share() - http://www.beamto.us

"PS. Most people on the dancefloor don't care if dj spins for 1, 2 or 5 hrs."

i think this is a false statement. in the world of psytrance i've noticed that the average trancer is pretty attentive to detail when it comes to a "good" vs "bad" dj set and a "long" vs "short" set. people definitely notice when one guy has been banging it out for 3 hours or more, i.e. at Sacred Geometry this last weekend, by the 3rd and 4th hour of Hydroponik's set, i felt that people became pretty aware of the story that was being told... i noticed a lot of "paying close attention" during his set from most of the ears on the dancefloor.

Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe psyfreaks care more about the music than average partygoer.
From what I've seen people rather feel good/bad music without focusing too much on who's spinning.           http://www.chillumafia.com

As a dj, I prefer 2 hours sets, it lets me work my magic, and create a full story. I think 3 hours is a bit much though, and personally like to allow others the same ive been given. Afterall its about the overall experiance and not just dj x or y.

For a headlining live act, i think 3 hours max is fair. 1.5 hour live, 1.5 hour dj

As a dancer though, i tend to prefer 1.5 hour sets from djs im seeing. I have a short attention span, so the same sound for over 2 hours bores me. I like things changed up.And really very few djs (there are some) vary their sound or enrgy level during a set regardless of how long they are playing. Also what if said performer sucks.
All you folks saying so and so deserves 3 hours, wouldnt if your ears were bleeding from some audio torture.

and @ dog, although this kinda does contradict my last statement, the average trancer doesnt know squat from a mix to a trainwreck, to a dj that knows what they are doing.
However it is easy to tell just by the generated energy and crowd if someone is off the hook, or sucking ass.

I think what paradigm said sums it up in general. 1 hour is too short, 2 hours may proove to be a perfect for most but may start to bore people, 1.5 hours should be acceptable to all. I dont see harm in increasing a 1 hour set by half hour. Anyways, hope this does provide some sort of help to organisers when making line ups in the future.

I feel its more important that an organiser know their music inside out, and make an effort to find out what music the DJs they bring down play. A good timetable is the key element. Its like the being the DJ of the DJs

I'd love to see more people work together behind the console. Actually make an effort to beatmatch between one set and the next. I used to see it happen a lot in 2002-2003 but somehow it doesnt seem to be cool to do it anymore. Everyone likes to be their own act. hhhmmmph.

Chillumafia ... we'll try to keep at smooth as we can between our 3 sets.
