More and more trance artists these days try to adapt their music for a larger audience but often compromise the quality of their music.
Do you think well known artists such as infected mushroom and astral projection have gone too commercial?
Is this good for the international trance scene or bad? Please post your opinions...

Hmm.. Lets see.. after making music underground for years... Someone has to pay the bills.. people have kids get married... do you think they can survive for the rets of thier lives when the mp3 scene is coming into play and no one wil buy much cds.. so why is it so bad to see our fellow trance musicians suceed. whats wrong in that .. after all its just going to get bigger and be more socially accepted... you will see more girls in parties ... things will change... I think its fine.. it has 2 sides tho.. one its getting commercial and the whole underground feel to it was what attracted me back in the day... but comercial is also good.. Look at Ben Watkinds (Juno Reactor) he is making music for Movies now such as Matrix.. Its cool.. just be happy for them

As I see it, Infected Mushroom always changed their style with time. Now they have reached a stage where some people think they're making "music for the masses". I'm not so sure, maybe it's just a logical step in their musical evolution.
As for Astral Projection, they haven't changed their style for a decade now. They are proud of it, it shows in their interviews.

Jeto is right : some Trance dinosaurs began their journey more than 10 years ago. For some, the craziness of youth is maybe gone.

The choice is up to us, others will always do what they want, if anyone of us feels that things are not as we like we can always do our own party/music and then let others make a choice.......just keep ur spirit alive           Its a messy world....biggup to the garbage cleaners....

just became a IM fan when i heard they prepair a new track for MTV ...i was very disappointed ...the fact is they don`t realy care for their fans as they care for the money ...so ..it`s their business ..mine is to listen what i like ....           Dream is my world. Goa is my motherland. Trance is my religion. Flying is my life.

Small reminder: Astral Projection were different before Dancing Galaxy, after that they haven't changed one bit. As to IM, they're doing their thing. Just more proffesional now.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

Astral didnt went commercial at all !
its just that some people dont want to except the fact that they have been awarded a gold album...

infected have never been commecial and they will never be ! , the world just got used to their style becuase it succedded, they changed a little bit the style and changed the sound and mix a lot [for good !!!]

IMO for conclusion, people are just letting their envy to reach their head, and this is the main cause for this dirty talking u all do about a famous and fresh successful artists !

stop this attitude, its wrong !

I think QUALITY is a loose term here... cause as I see there r only improvements in IM production quality... as for spirit it´s arguable...

I like the guys sound and they don´t need to prove anything anymore... RESPECT

But yep, there´s such a thing as going comercial... Just don´t think IM and AP are the case, maybe they r overknown, but this are the guys, the originals... There are some guys though who want to reach their level in just a few years and try to follow their patterns... Those r comercials...

My opinion is not really popular but i'd like to see the Trance scene getting bigger, i'd like to see more interesting influences on the music. The music today isn't varied enough. I still wait for some serious American production, for example some real Techno influences, from the American folks. If it's from Brazil i'd like to hear genuine Brazilian influenced style and not Israely/French style clone. Come on ppl so much good music all around the globe and almost nothing sinks through the wall.
Just look at the Finnish music, i don't really like their music but atleast they are trying to give their music unique edge..
Even in Nitzchonot age the ppl were creative enough to add Oriental influences to the music (to draw the wrong ppl to trance though ).
I say: Commercialism is good in some extent. It allows the music to evolve.           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

Listen to Pavel, smart man.

Why compromise quality of music?
They change their style, not quality. People learn and evolve, and so is their art.

Psyfire, is your definition of commercialism success? Infected's latest album has done well in the trance scene and has also been recognized by other scenes because it is a musical masterpiece, but I seriously doubt that we are going to see "Converting Vegeterians" in a commercial top 40 next to Brittney Spears. I think its good for the trance world to get some well deserved recognition every once and a while.

I'm never in favour of compromising quality of music - therefore most of the time, and not allways I must say, commercialism can compromise musical quality (not production sound or whatever that is)....

I'm 100% with Pavel on this one. What's wrong with our scene getting a little bit bigger, what's wrong that an artist has success and actually can pay his bills for a change.

If you don't like the music then don't buy it.
Infected Mushroom have all my respect.
Didn't Sphongle also sell over 30.000, wasn't one of Hallucinogens Album distributed by Sony.

Does success always mean commercialism?
I don't think so.
