if some are curious about this processor , it s bassically a tube distortion , it can go from subblte warming, add thickness, give life to cold digital synths...it s one of the favorite gear of prodigy ,chemical brothers to name just a few .here are a review and i m very curious about this unit as it s suposed to be great at making digital source more meaty and sound analog!

I would love to try one out, and see the noise the valves generate, as I am afraid that the signal to noise ratio is going to be small. That is only my speculation though. Still 1400 euros, for unbalanced jacks seems silly to me.

Peace out.

gonna try it soon, next week hopefully and probably keep it.
i have read many comment of ppl owning decapitator and the vulture ,this thing is the king of distortion but decapitor is good too , i like it but it s no replacement.

from one artist i have heard taht use it all other the place (on most synths) it can give that big production sound, expensive like coming out of big studio, very hifi even if it s a lofi effect.

if one want i can run some sound into it .. like some zebra leads , it will be the version with the nos mullard tubes

in the youtube demo their is some noise, but it s when he really push it , probably one would have to delete the silent part in the daw to remove it ,also ppl say thermionic built quality is total crap, like home made gear but ppl love their sound.
i have read something about the creator he say after the 60 they started to make solidstate gears and for him it sound like crap compared to good tube gears that what used before, is aim was to bring that sound with modern noise floor frequncy reponse..

i would be very interested in a whole mix send through the vulture with several steps of increasing drive settings.
i have been thinking a lot about out of the box summing recently and this seems to be also an "easy" alternative to give some analogue shine and glue to whole mixes maybe.

so if you get your hands on the thingy pom and could post a mix sample that would be orsm

a quiet part should be also tested to check with noise level for that purpose!          http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/stereofeld-frequenzwechsel

+1 one that, would be real interested to hear the noise levels especially as I am convinced the unit can deliver distorsomness

I am also going down the analog path more and more. The SH-101 gets used all the time for the bread and butter lead patches. My custom x0xb0x will be here in a couple of weeks. Then building a new Liverwire/Plan B modular which is going to take a year to complete as the modules are very expensive. Then I will look into the Thermionic Culture Vulture (if its not too noisy) and an AMS NEVE 8816 summing mixer to do the summing outside the box.

That's my 2012 budget plan for the studio.

Peace out.

nice mate
about running full track i think it s good , from what i have heard for that it seems the best is to let the drive at zero and run the tune hot into the culture vulture, gonna experiment...if it s not good enough for running full tunes i may have to change at least 2 tubes(not expensive)for very high quality nos tube (more linear frequency with more defined sound)

it may work well just on some sort of mix too..if the guys already distort the highs a lot, use lot of exciter and stuff like this it will be probably too much

if one want to send me 1 or 2 minute of a tune for example and i will post with/without when i get the vulture.
i will also post a sample of a phoscyon pattern into it trying all the vulture setting just for fun and to hear all the range of tone the machine produce

i think it can really remove the digital edge of source and also compress in a nice way making sounds "ready" to sit in a tune wihtout trouble

klippel i think it s great to remove digital sound from source and give analog shine and thickness. a summer it s expensive imo can be great too(phoenix nicerizer ), a good desk with great eqs is really nice but only old stuff is affordable (and most budget desk made after 90 don t sound really good)you will have to deal with repeir , and you need lot of i/o.
a stereo eq ,a stereo comp and something like a vulture is a great set up imo no need more than this

for that money i would suggest a nice Brent Averill Mic Preamp to colour your sound..           -------......-------...-..-..-..-.-.-.-.-

yep preamps are nice too but a expensive buy when one don t record anyhting with mics.
used as a makeup gain behind a passive eq might be nice.

found this in a chemical brother forum where they describe all the gears they used for a album, this is what they say about the culture vulture

THERMIONIC CULTURE VULTURE
Another secret weapon the Chemical Brothers used on almost every track of We Are the Night is Thermionic Culture's Culture Vulture — the Chem's tube-driven distortion unit par excellence.

“All the synths went through the Culture Vulture,” Rowlands reveals. “It drives the signal through its tubes in different ways. You put a synth through it, and it sounds 10 times better. Before we went to main mixing, we recorded just about all the synths through the Culture Vulture. It gives everything a bit of dirt and makes it sound less clean and a bit more real somehow. That is the sound we have been usually getting but through quite complicated levels of distortion and overdriving the Neve desk and EQing and compressing it. But with the Culture Vulture, you just plug something in; there are three different tube settings and two knobs, and you just play around until something happens. I don't know how it works. I have lost my mind in this gear pit!”

sound a bit like publicity i guess they got the vulture for free lol but if they used it on everyhting it should be good as they probably have access to loads of gears (they use ssl board for exemple )
