This is a generalisation and there are probably exceptions but i think most of the progressive coming out on the big proggy labels is too safe and predictable. Plusquam, Iboga, Tatsu, D.S, Domo they all mostly bringin out the same clubby vibe progressive. It doesnt seem like they are looking for music that is pushing new boundaries. Maybe its just a taste thing, but i like to hear weird head twisting sounds in my trance, over the top of deep, fucked up and funky grooves. All i get these days is nice grooves layered with minor dub chords. I mean the popular progressive stuff is very well made and produced. but it just feels too....safe. I miss the old style from 4 years ago - BigWigs, ShivaChandra, Beat Bizzare...now that was progressive and psychadelic!!

tim, how can we "looking for music that push boundaries" if we will looking for music we were listening, releasing and played 4-5 years ago ? old good minimal sctrathy psy trance was hard in my head years ago, i still didnt hear any better that debut noma album or chrisma trax.. todays minimal normaly do exactly what they did or worse.. imo this style is very close ad probably everything done in this direction. here and there i still hear realy good minimal but its never exciting for me coze still its remind me good old minimal tunes i liked so much.
todays progressive much more into house influences that also will became boring after a while..
i guess i just tire of dry music, especialy when i normaly mix it with popish electro clash punk house)

and for music that push boundaries we just opened a VP which will for sure have less sucess in psy secene but will blend styles and influences all the way long:-)

hmm i have bought both Zenon records releases, and they are cool and very different. i especially like the Praecox, Moses and FREq tracks off Permutations...the rest i find to be a bit noisy. i don't really like the Krumelur and Legohead vs Sensient tracks (sorry!). i just feel that they are trying to be too obviously psychedelic. i appreciate my psychedelia a little more subtle.

for me Cold Cuts on Cold Groove Recs is just where i'd like the progressive sound to lean towards, deeper an a little darker, away from the fluffy housey stuff (but not too close to the tech sound that some of the album is). i really like the Tetraktys remix...he played some incredibly cool stuff at the Transit festival i didnt recognise.

i definately agree though that the labels are pushing a safe sound. it's a very polished and stylish sound but no boundaries are being pushed. suncontrolspecies album will definately be leaning towards the trancey progressive sound if his current releases are anything to go by.

it would be wrong in my opinion to say that the progressive side of things is recycling the same old tired sound (a bit like most full on releases are), and this year has had some really nice fresh sound. still good things to come after the summer too. here's to the future of progressive

I'd have to agree with Zombi - with the house influences on prog, electro just goes to funkier places           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

would dj sasha's global underground involver and anthony pappa's balance count as progressive trance?           "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program."
