My dear isracrackers,
How come each review I see here gets to be like the best CD of the year. Every CD getting 9/10 all the time mostly etc.

If not for honest reivews, how can music notice flaws and overcome it in the future?

I just read a review on Ynet about 4 recent albums, and although it was obvious for me - but that was a very small but honest review.
Means it was critisizing and not encouraging.

With so many good reviews, it is almost like we got a scene without any bad/noncreative music - which is not true and you know it

I allways thought, if I got something bad to post here, I wouldn't do it and just let those with good thoughts post. Without critisizing, good music won't take off.

I understand that most reviews here are taste oriented, but to notice good production everyone can right? Exactly like noticing repetitive formulas, no storytelling experiences and same commercial music approach that most releases got today.

This is to encourage everyone.

I only take the time to make an extensive review of a CD if I have received it as a promo from the artist/label, or if I think it’s really good.

If that’s not the case, I usually wait for someone else to review it, and just give my grade in the comments. Perhaps you’re right though. For instance it was really tempting to give Zoo2 3/10, but I decided to keep it to myself, so I wouldn’t kick of another progressive vs. full on flame thread.          DJ pr0fane (Iboga Records) | Multiphase

I normally review what I like. Why put an effort to write in detail about something I don't like completely?

What I don't like, I don't review (haven't been reviewing much trance lately, haven't I?...)

275 results for "Album of the year" in the CD Reviews section. I think that says it all.

Finally someone says it here loud.

I myself can't trust any review here. No offence but i think they are not so honest, one reason can be that so many artists them self visit this site and their friends and so on, that can cause that nobody wants to say what they really think, or they just want to praise their friends. Maybe a strikt moderating could have something to do with it too? And negative reviews are important too in my opinion, it gives a more balanced feeling somehow.

edit: Not ofcourse every album review is bad.. but mostly all thread has this KILLAAAAH!!! feeling hehe. "I haven't heard this album and no track ever from the artist but im sure this is a dance-floor-stompper 11/10 !!11!.

Also i think for a psy-forum here's way too strict rules, and some moderators telling users what's allowed here and what's not, ok it's their forum but it makes too serious vibes.

Well said Trip but the thing is that most people only review what they like which is exactly what Molecular had written. That is one of the reasons why I wanted a cd review request.

Thx for bringing this up Trip-

I agree with most that is said...

Personally I have a very hard time reviewing stuff that I don't really like... This one for instance, http://forum.isratrance.com/viewtopic.php/topic/38651/forum/9 - 'tis was a hassle... It's much easier reviewing stuff that you like...

But of course, not all new releases are worth 10/10 - as we see alot around here... Personally I take great pride in writing honest, non-biased reviews - and of course they'll be highly subjective - but when it comes to music, can you really be objective?

The problem we're facing here is that people that are not professional reviewers don't get promotional copies or something like that, they have to buy all of our stuff ourselves. That's why most people review only the good cd's, because they've bought them exactly for that reason.

But I agree that we have to have the critic note here, since on most cd's not every song is great, cool etc.

Look at my reviews of Sub 6 and Four Carry Nuts and you will find that I have NOT bought these albums, but have listened to them extensively either online or at friends, have found them to be either bad, or substandard and honestly give you my opinion. I think more people should do that.           "Subconscious unravels at the point of death, and all time it has known erupts into a moment. As death extinguishes us, so we become it."

in the isratrance website is written "we only write about what we like"
this is nonsense.. people should know also from which cd's to stay away from.

also, i totally agree with insomaniac..
i bought unusual suspects compilation JUST because of the great reviews here about it?
and guess what?
i'm REALLY sorry that i wasted almost 80 nis on this ****...          u can find "Anything U Want" using the search...

hod keep in mind that isratrance team review what they like on the website.
Here in the forum it's a much more free for all and this is what im talking about.

For all those who review only what they like, I guess it's fine. Since I am used to do this myself.
I only say that giving a bad review, which is as honest as a good one, is expressing an opinion.
For instance I see many reviews of parties that aren't exactly 10/10.          Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

I think that there should be also negative reviews otherwise there is no chance artists can get better in what they do.. Artists do listen to their fans and there fore one that is disappointed from something in a given album or compilation has to say it and there is nothing wrong in it.

I know however, that many reviewers try to soften their tone when they review artist that active on this forum ( like me for example ). In the thread for my last cd, DETOX had a great review but I felt he was unsatisfied, but wrote it in very nice way, kinda not to hurt someone - when I asked him, he told me he likes the cd alot but wishes for some parts to be more full on, and sorry they are not. BUT THIS IS WHAT U SUPPOSE TO WRITE ppl! You need to give us a clue what u like and ofcourse what u dislike, since we listen

I totally disagree with Shahar for instance, since if you want to make something better u have to give constructive critisizm, if u dont do that, it is very hard to progress, and I am sorry that Shahar doesn't give his opinion on Trance CD's anymore cuz as his friend I know he has a lot to say, and even if it is not of the positive kind, maybe it's important especially these days, when there are WAY TOO MUCH releases and young artists don't take their time to mature and produce more complex and interesting music.

All of us need constructive critisizm           A man with a "master plan" is often a woman
