It depends how many Vst you wanna use at the same time, try bounce midi to audio (as many as possible)
I think is the best way to save CPU usage

Has anyone got some wise words about the Roland Edirol UA-4FX USB device?

I am thinking about getting one for my laptop, but not sure what to look for in an external soundcard...           www.xun.dk / myspace.com/xundk

dont go for that one made..its pretty cheap but full packet with strange benefits like internal fx and all that stuff..get something basic.. like echo audiofire 2 .. in that price range the best sounding on the market and the drivers are usually very stable..

Hey there.. I just picked up an Axiom 49 and i use FL studio and Ableton Live. I dont use hardware synths. I just want want to record notes and control software parameters. Would you suggest any decent and inexpensive soundcards that would serve my purpose?

For both purposes, M-Audio is a good start.

Laptop: M-Audio Fast Track Pro (about $150-200). It gives you 2 full ASIO channels for stereo input and output (you can record and play at the same time).

If you want to spend a little more you can try the M-Audio Fast Track Ultra, which offers a bunch more channels and internal DSP (send delay, reverb and other FX to headphones but record dry).

PC: M-Audio Delta1010LT. Cheap, PCI, offers 5 stereo inputs and 5 stereo outputs. Very stable!

I suggest you get a USB laptop soundcard. That way you can use it with your PC AND laptop independently.

Sup Brozzz...

Any1 have any experience with the Presonus Audiobox USB?

Got one a few days ago and having serious latency issues! Only plays for a few seconds on the busy part of my track before audio drop!

Was using the creative Audigy ZS Platinum Pro and the latency was much much better on that! Quite shocked!

Remedial quest!

I have presonius firepod...and no problems at all.

Make sure in the sequencer you change the connection to the presonus (for midi, vst & audio!)
I had this problem in the beginning that not everything was connected to the presonus...so then the standard windows soundcard gets chosen and much latency occurs.

Hope it helps, else you can try presonus website for update drivers.
