I only have experience with TerraTec's Phase 88 Firewire Rack, and so far it's been good. It has 8 balanced inputs and outputs, spdif and 2 x midi io. The midi latency is a bit much, but otherwise it's a good soundcard.

I still have an old Terratec EWS88MT in my home studio. (Same PCI card as the Phase88 but different breakout box). I am happy with the drivers of this card. That isn't really astonishing as this card (The PCI section) is 4 or 5 years old (Maybe even more). They have had plenty of time to iron out any bugs ... Also, because Terratec have a large consumer department, they have a huge testlab with practically any motherboard available to test their drivers with.

I'm using an Audiotrak Maya 1010 (10in/10out - 1/2 ins with phatom power) for about 2 months and I'm happy with it. No problems till here. I use Logic 5.5.1 and Windows XP. |

For anyone on a budget, I highly recommend the EMU-404/Proteus. For the low price you will get good quality! Its not a dreamcard but it will do in a pinch, or as secondary soundcard : ) |

i will try to be more specific and objective further on..
and it would be nice that all of you that recommend cards do it in a technical manner...
what typ of OS and Cpu and Motherboard
im going to present some cards and elaborate on them....
just to give us a good base...
cards like, Motu, Rme, Echo, Digidesign, M-Audio,
it would also be nice if someone who has a card that you feel is not mentioned, give us a technical review and comments...
do you guys think that its better to link to the manufacturers homepage, to save us from reading things that we might not want to read? |

if you whant to go a bit up the scale go with Lynx sound cards, like the Lynx Two or the AES16. I have the Lynx Two Model C and its the best sounding card ever, in my opinion, and in all the reviews ive read and also in the specs of the card itself! Its juste a bit more pricy than other sound cards, because it has the best AD-DA converters of all.

and as i want a Pci card this could well be it...
but for the sake of the cause i think it can be good for me and everybody to make some comparisons...
i will be back with more meat on the bones... |
