Its not about the mastering
The mix is the most important!
Be sure nothing is clashing with eachother, especially the kick and bass
Pan sounds for more stereo image, that will make it sound wider
A stereoimager will just fuckup the sound, the most effective is tool is getting all your sounds to fit together etc.

and always remember ... human ears are not linear but more quite based like on a logarithmic scale .... -3dB means half as loud in terms of the energy content at cutoff frequency.

Uuuuhhh , damn... lol... I need to correct myself here!
Of course -6dB means half as loud ...

Man this took me long to notice

Has anyone here used the Izotope
Ozone? I was just basically
whethere this thing will do the job.

As we all know, mastering is a
huge pain, and the advertisements
for the Ozone make it seem as if
this thing works miracles.

If anyone has some information
regarding just how good this thing
is, please share it!

Hola!

Very good posts, but I have a question:

What makes a "finalizer" and a "harmonizer" to the track?

There is no processing called like these. Some manufacturer name their products or the combination of some processings like this, which is stupid.

ok, first i must tell u that my experience with mastering is far from something remotely pro.. ok after saying this i can tell u that izotope ozone DOESNT make any miracle, it just puts all the components for a mastering rig toguether in a comprehesive package. that way u dont have to worry about building a mastering processing chain that could not work. but, u still have to be able to understand and use each of the processes properly (EQ, multiband compression, limiting, etc) . about the sound of the plugin, my impression is that its very good, maybe not excellent compared to plugins from dsp like uad or tc, but better than many native. that doesnt mean that it will automatically master ur tracks and make em sound great, thats for sure. i would recommend from begginer to beginner to get wavelab and izotope ozone as well as the tutorial video swa mastering with izotope ozone i think is great introduction to mastering! and read lots about compression and limiting , eq , mastering : some theory wont harm !

izotope ozone has an amazing multiband stereo imagin

and has anyone cut off the ultralow frequences (below 25-20hz)?
using waves x-hum for example. i always seen that many tracks have not a brilliant panoram on this frequences.

yet another guestion about 16 vs 24 bits:

well. Since all my drum samples are 16/44 will I benefit from working on 24/96 ?

I mean... my synths and vsts will be processed at true 24/96 but my drum samples will be coverted without any loss in quality?

I am a little confused about this. give me some help!

Yes, if a mix has too much sub bass, then I tend to high pass somewhere between 20 - 30Hz. Depends on the mix. Too much subs can be awefull on a bigger sound system, and too little makes the track sound cold and thin, so must balance it so its warm and fat, but not overkill or flabby...

I'm sure Faxi is experienced enough to do home mastering well.
