 or

soft propellerheads reason Subtractor , Vanguard

its easy put some saw line , set octave at 0 or 1 n then put some fm next use some filter freq or cutoff at highpass or midpass to make it swinging - ofcourse to set really nice valour u will have to work on it .... try using also some env filter n after finishing good sounding lead putting on it other filters like dists , chorus , panorama , etc

 A very informative post.

						| hey i got a question: if i want to have a few synth layers in different parts of the spectrum, a pretty busy scenerio for instance comi ng out of a break down would it be a good idea to chuck a compressor on all these synth lines? to tighten things a bit yeah? do artist releasing music use compression on lead lines and synths to bring more clarity to the mix or do you not worry about, eq and good filtering does the trick?
 cheers. *insert beer emoticon?* eheh

I'd rather not use compressor in anyway other but maybe kick or bassline. Leave that thing to mastering engineer

						| Hello, all. I'm looking for a way to create a Psy synth sound on my hardware synthesizer. I don't care if it sounds like S.U.N. Project, Electric Universe, Infected Mushroom, Pigs in Space, or home made. I really want to use the Psychedelic sound. D: More lead than sweep. |

yes it could be a good idea.
leads can be tricky bastards to control, a compressor can do the trick or just a brickwall limiter so they wont clip, sometimes a compressor can kill the life of the lead if its set to compress too much, so find a good setting that wont choke the lead and make it lifeless. so in this case like i said maybe a limiter would be enough and then its up to you to balance the sound so they wont go through the bricks!

its not seldom that a mixing enginner use compressors on all channels, each to their own, it all depends on the recorded material and the effect you are after, some stuff really needs compression if you want a tight sound.

						| The lead should be the most liquid, organic open element of a track, so I would tend not to use much compression as it would squash the life out of it. Leaving enough room for the necessary elements and most things will just kinda fit in there by themselves. Square pegs/round holes etc...

Thats not to say some compression from saturation or overdrive wont add some balls to your lead but I cant say I reach for the compressor when trying to fit things in a mix. EQ is the main tool for the job.

						| Hi Cyclix,
I tried to get that Lead sound using Vanguard and Logic Fx plugs. I could get down the most of it, but I couldn't get it identical.

Please PM me with your email, so I'll send you some screen shots, since I can't post graphics here.
