ahhh this track  ,sound like a roland synth to me,i don t know how you can be close with vst maybe try with xhip,try with phaser,chorus on it. |

Ok Im about to go nuts!!! plz i hope someone here can help me. iv been trying for some time to do a heavy lead like the one kindzaza always uses hmm...like the main lead in annihilation.
Now i tried evreything and i got to leads cosmo uses and leads that zik uses and they are all cool and all, but i want HEAVY RAW EVIL!!!! i tried many pulse combinations, FM saw, Multiple FM operators And NADA all sound cool but... not Monsterous!...(if there is such a word). anyway i hope some1 here can understand me, im really depressed here guys ;/ |

yep use distortion man ,,, the leads becomes unbelievably present in your mix !! the ' in your face ' feeling ....

which brings me to my next question... any good distortion plugins?
the ones iv got are the default qubase and pulsar distortions and suprisingly they both suck..... the over drive is cool.... but iknow there is much better..... |

yep The Antares Tubes Sounds SWEET!!! thx, anyway im still working on the lead sound. found out that my problem was thaT MY SOUND WAS not harmonic, since i used FM to spice the lead sound and it made it sound out of tune... so i just sync it now and it sounds real cool.
+ the antares really does its job well.
anyway now im meeting my next challenge... its not creating the lead but actualy playing it, and i havnt seen much discussion on it here. there are three methods i know, recording a good atuomation export it to audio and then start cutting it up, which is cool cause u can reverse and all, but u gotta keep ur eye on the fade in/out of each block so u wont get Tik Noises... there is also a way of using some thing like the filter tonic or GATE to chop it up good. and of course there is MIDI playing andthen automating on the notes u play on midi.... what are ur favorite ways to manipulate ur lead and actualy playing a good killer SOLO with them on ur track... my favorite artist who knows the way of playing the lead IMHOP is REV... love that guy... Gave the best set in Doof2007... he is totaly the master... he is so cool... anyway, give tips and what evere on this subject, since i really got problems in coming up with good tunes with my leads.

verb is good, not on everthing though. it helps to give things their own place, eg it can make things go to the top of the mix.don't use cheap verbs though. its how you give big powerful sound especially on pads etc. Kedux what synth you using? |

Another question please.....
Most of us eq our leads but can someone please explain when this is done?
is it better to eq after adding all your fx or is it better to eq everything, get the right sound and then apply fx at the end?

there is no rule ... usually i use all kind of distortions and then i eq ,at the end of the fx chain after i tweaked the verb i use a eq just before ,it works great cause the sound of the verb depend a lot from the source who is comming in ,you can use a other eq after the verb in the send chanel too. |
