Technion students are not included. They are natural born fighters. For them, sleeping once a week is a privelege.

Yes, and sleeping also seems to have an adverse effect on sound quality. Music that you did before going to sleep sounded great, but then when you listen to it after sleeping it sounds crap. Could this be a problem with my soundcard? I know my harddrive is wearing down since my tracks sound worse after each listen. Now if I could only figure out what component of my computer is making my leads sound childish and unimaginitive. |

KTE, i think ur problem is situated between ur screen and ur chair.. i have the same problem, and with me that's the cause
the 'computer-blips' lead:
a) u need at least 1 square osc with pwm possibilities. other osc's (if any) dependant on taste
b) put a fast lfo (not too fast, but it's very important that it's correct... What is correct will depend on the speed of ur song) on the pw of ur square (or automate it, like that u have more control, and u can use it with long stabs too, instead of only with very short stabs), it's good to take a high depth, or, when automating, make big changes.
c) no filter needed.
d) add fx/filtering/processing to bring it up to ur own taste
that's it, it's done already
best test to hear what this does is to strap on an arpeggiator in 16ths, hold one note... U'll notice what i mean... slow down the lfo if u hear changes in pulsewidth within one stab, speed it up if the sound doesn't change enough from one stab to another (or increase depth if speeding it up isn't possible anymore).
The best example i know of this sound is 'bring ur own bios' (who made that song again?), another good example is artifakts 'the bad thing', where artifakt takes the effect even further with his automatisation. |

It happens to everyone... that's why it's advisable to take breaks while composing/mixing/mastering...
It's something in our brain wich adapts itself to what we're hearing... imagination kicks in and for minutes your the best producer ever
My advice: Get out from the studio from time to time
  roll a joint or STFU :) |

piXan - i dont think you needs so much advice, you seem to have some insight in what needs to make a fat lead...
a fat lead is much about filter envelope aswell..
fool around with your synths and plugs and im sure you will get some nice results...
nothing beats experimentation
maybe some knowledge on top of it...

Lately I've been having fun with flangers, especially Waves Metaflanger. I found that a tiny delay causes a second frequency to occur, with longer delays causing the frequency to drop in pitch. I've had good success 'tuning' the delay to fatten up the lead and give it a nice, harmonically rich timbre. Sometimes I'll tune it to the octave, other times to a fifth or third, or sometimes to whatever sounds good.
Any parameter that affects or generates pitch gets a flag in my mind as being useful for this. |
