Okay i have had cubase for about two months now and i still cannot manipulate my kick (and bass, but thats another story) to perfection. I am looking for a dark knocking kick.
I have been using 909 with the ringmodulator along with the transformer. But i have yet to produce anything that sounds reasonable.
Does anyone have any tips or advice that will point me in the right direction. Thank you.

Hi guys
I've heard many people saying that I can make my kicks with any synth...but How can I do it?
at the moment I'm using adobe, it's nice but i would explore new ways...and also it's quite difficult to get what I want, maybe I don't use the rigth EQ?

hi everyone...
recently i find myself working almost without any equipment, just a lousy amp, some ordinary but pretty powerful speakers, and my m-audio delta 44.
perfecting the mix of kick and bass was always a tough mission for me, even when i used to work with monitors and good amp and Gina.
anyhow, thats all i have at the moment, and i have to work with it somehow.
for the kick i usually don't use any modifiers but EQ (usually Waves Q4), when the kick comes on a mono channel.
for the bass i use Trilogy, which panned both channels at the center (in cubase u can divide the channels ).
both routed to mono group.
working without monitors ain't easy job when you want to hear the low freqs, so i'm loading the kick, and for monitoring the low's i use Waves PAZ (Mono+Stereo), Pinguin and headphones, and when i think it's good, i compare it to other kick's from my favorite tracks...
sometimes it works, sometimes not.
but the actual problem is finding the pitch of the kick and finding a matching pitch of the bass. it always somehow gets wrong, it seems like i always fail to find the right pitch for them! and it's so depressing, maaan!
is there any way to find true pitch of the kick, because the kick is the one with more freq modulation then the bass, the bass usually stands still on one freq, but the kick starts high, ends low, and it's really tough one to handle...
any tips?

one way:
Temporarily tune your kick up +12 semitones (1 octave), then fine tune until it sits harmonically with your bass. When you find the sweet spot, subtract 12 semitones from the final pitch.
so if you boost it +12, and then find it sits well harmonically at 11.34, set the final pitch to -0.66 (11.34-12).
Another way:
Slap a nasty distortion on your kick to introduce new upper (audible) harmonics. Tune. Take off the distortion.
