jmmm...
I've always used the same Sens.. the HD 25-1 ones. right?

yes they are maybe the best.. BUT!!!!! U should know they have a compressor implemented into them, so the big problem with specially this model is that they are very bad on the volume level of the diferent sounds. I mean.. u can hear a perfect clear snare or some crazy swoooooosh sound with them and than u put your trak on some studio monitors and u ask yourself.. SHIT!! WHERE MY SNARE IS???..
They just equal the levels of all sounds...
Another thing (made on purpose) is that the mids of this fones are extremly boosted. So to make final mixing of the trak u cannot guide just by this fones cuz later u'll notice all your mids are extremely low... ejejejeje.
Anyway I use them to build the traks, they are GREAT! for the bass lines..
Just be very carefull with the Mid-range, always listen to another speakers, monitors, phones. also always look at Spectral Analisis to be sure what really is happening.

but yes! thumbs up for the SENS HD 25-1!!!           Sound:

i am now using these:

http://www.headphone.com/guide/by-manufacturer/sennheiser/sennheiser-hd-650.php

they are pretty expensive... think i paid about $320. but they are really, really, REALLY fucking nice headphones.

they're great for checking fine details of a mix. but they're even better for listening to acoustic recordings... you can hear people's fingers touching guitar strings before chords, you can hear the singer open their mouth before singing, you can hear someone licking their lips before a chorus kicks in... absolutely amazing.

as for working on them, i wouldn't use them for DJing. for producing they are so revealing that it takes a bit of getting used to. at first you can't make decisions about anything because you don't understand how they translate (well, i didn't!). and you need to be very careful with stereo imaging, reverb depth etc...

but on the plus side you can hear the most incredible things... subtle distortions, the character of noise, the dissolving tail of a really good reverb. the bass is excellent (it's quite strong, which is good for dance music) and they're really comfy. the only problem is they'd sound better driven by a dedicated headphone amp... i know a mastering engineer who masters drum-and-bass using HD-650s!

overall i wouldn't recommend them for everyone. for most producers they're too clinical and too precise. only if you are interested in the very finest details, and maybe you make music other than full-on digital psytrance...

The Senneheiser HD25-1 headphones have excellent isolation. It's like wearing earplugs. When there is music coming out of them you most definitely can not hear anything outside of the headphones.           ~Airyck~

They would be perfect for you then. I use them for both DJ sets and Producing. When I'm playing at events with huge sound systems I don't have to turn them up very loud to hear because of the great isolation. If thats what you're looking for then you can't go wrong with the sennheiser hd25's           ~Airyck~
