Can anyone suggest why I can make a reasonable bass sound in some soft synths and when I sample it, and load it in a sampler it looses some of it's quality. I've used the ESM, audio realism, albino (ESM and audio realism sound the best IMO)
I'm using the EXS as a sampler. I've messed with the filters, checked sample rates and many other things. I also have the MachFive 2, but have not tried it for bass samples yet.

from what i know, you should not envelope or filter the sound again...
turn off the filter. |

spot on - you really don't want to filter your sound with two different filters.

Hey..
i trie to achieve kind of this bassline...if anybody could help me out..that would be great..my biggest problem is to set the notes..so that should be the focus..maybe somebody could even make a midi file?
or just trie to write down something...
for the sound i use the phoscyon, trash, nxtasy, cubase compressor, envelope shaper and maybe the vintage warmer..
i wonder how to achieve this amount of clearnes on the bass, but ok..this will depend on how to set up the synth and the fx..and the lenght of the notes..so thats actualy not the worst case for me..just the notes is where i despair of..
but what do you think in wich key is this sample?and yer wich notes are actualy on it ..
thx m8s
here is the link..its just a short sample..

Mtz Mtzz, just import the sample into your cubase project, slow the project down to like the half or so (and do the same with the sample). Listen carefully and try to play the same notes with your bass-instrument. Be patient and try to match it, you will hear it when you play a wrong note

I found this VST sampler it can save your sampler project as VSTI. Very useful for sampel based basslines. basically you can make your own bassline vst with this. it works for me

also i want to share my bass patches for Vstation, sytrus, vanguard, sylenth etc... i will upload them soon...cheers |

A quick one and probably a stupid one but nonetheless...when you guys say -
EQ the bass to the Kick what do you mean?
What are you trying to do? what are you trying to hear? what are you hoping to see in the spectrum analyser?
Can someone explain please?
Cheers

Made sure the filters were off and, I also think I was trimming to much of the begining of the sample. Seems to be sounding nice.

I have a question about how u get the bassline to run,but stay clear and in the foreground. I normally use VB1 or z3ta or albino.I eq and cut the very lows(under 35hz) and the highs(above 120hz) and the compress.Give it some sustain and cut the release and the attack. But still when I hear it on a hi-fi system, its sound to me like it is in the background.
Also, another thing is if it is correct to use delay in the bassline or it distorts the sound to much??
Many thanks to anyone that can help a bit.. |

hey williamsk, try not cutting the high frequencies at 120hz already.. depending on your bass (offbeat / 16th / or whatever) and style, you could try cutting above 3000hz or something like that (with vb1 for instance, the click sound may still be a bit annoying if you solo it, but in the mix you probably won't hear it anymore, but the bass should be more present in the mix)
good luck

Thanks for the advice human.Very much appreciated.I'll try this. Also,I compress using a multiband comp and had aproximately the same settings as my eq's.Do you think I should widen the freq range at my comp as well?
About the delay, do you know if I should use it at the bassline.A friend does it and the bass sound faster but in my opinion, which is very prof, I think it just distorts it to much and u can see this especially when u solo it.
Thank again
