Hi people!

I just managed to get VB-1 to sound ALMOST the
way I wanted. There's still something missing
to make it perfect for me, I just can't figure out
what it is, something in the sound still bugs me
a bit..
If anyone knows what I could do to further
improve it, please let me know!

Here's the track, 320kbits, full length;
http://www.sendspace.com/file/rsdem6

You can also listen to it on myspace, if you
don't want to download it;
www.myspace.com/djhuman
It's the Track "Collision In Space".

Thanks for any useful tips in advance,
best wishes,
Human

add some multiband distortion!
cut sustain a little

i'm listening with my headphones so i cant say exactly wich freqs is missing.....
i think you should cut the high freqs and boost low/mid freqs

I wonder how the artists of let's say 10 years ago made there basslines, when there were no forums of help , tips etc.
The point also is i have heard maybe a few 1000 numbers the last 15 years, and every kick/bassline sounds ok, if i listen to a track i don't mention if a eq or whatever is not sounding well

Alias your got a nice pack of presets...
Some sound very awesome.
But, there's a problem.
I tried to make a correct bass sound with vanguard (myself, he he), and i tweaked it nearly the same as you but i didn't obtain the same sound. i got same amp envelope, same osc, same filter envelope...
So what ???
But for sure, like someone posted before, vanguard is really under rated.
With a good eq and good comp (with sidechain) and some distorsion i obtain a KILLER bass sound

Thanks for the idea Alias, I will try Quadrafuzz (I usually apply it on my basses, dunno why I forgot it this time) and reduce Sustain a bit and see what happens.
Also I'll take a look at your Vanguard presets

soo . 2 yrs and a bit and i think im finally a little close to get a good bass sound from that irritating vb1 .. sounds good on monitors and home system here but in the car theres this horrible humming thats muddying it a bit .. can someone tell me where that hum is located on the spectrum ? used parametric eq to see where stuff is happening and notched down a bit but still unable to remove the hum .. so .. help me a bit if u can .. thnx

Doesn't sound bad on my little Radio Shack headphones, what's your effects chain?

Try a sharp notch -3db or so in the 50-70Hz range, see if that helps.
