I thought I might as well post this question in the 'mother of all bassline threads':

How do you get that deep bass sound that's used in tracks such as 'Black&White - 20 for 7'?
Because even though the bass is very low freq it still has punch and clarity to it.. i'm guessing its probably to do with the EQ'ing of it but i just can't get it to sit tight enough.

I never got the VB-1 thing...at best, the thing sounds like it has a few odd harmonics, like an electric bass, but even the samples in Trilogy sound better to me. At worst, it just lacks functionality.

I agree with brod...
Even though I make fullon basslines, I don't like the typical VB-1 flavour... I just don't think it agrees with me as a bass machine!
I like basses which have abit more in them even though it may not sound like they do...

i love the vb-1 .. its soo amazing with the bassline .... i agree in the raw form it dosent sound great ... but then thats where u need to know , how to process the sound .... as u need to know with any other synth ... also the subtractor synth in reason gives me ultra killer basses !

Just notised that Astral Projection uses the VB-1 in "1.000.000 years from today". Hehe that's kinda funny when they have all those nice synths.

Just listen:
