I'll come with you astral mike, so that we can do a little dance for peace, a very noble cause indeed! , which needs a lot of dancing still, if you ask me ......
And in between we can do some online reporting, from this 'commercial', surely virtuelly connected island to proof the rest of these stressed-out psy worriers/warriors wrong!

Apples and Oranges - an expression about two things that don't have anything to do with eachother except one detail. Sunsets and psychedelic music?

BTW, some of the best art has been made in san-fransisco, which has been known for being foggy, cloudy, and generally having monochrome weather. The setting doesn't matter as much as the influences.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

Do we have a dress code now?

I don't care how people are dressed, as long as I can dress whatever I fell like and it doesn't affect the athmosphere negatively.

I think another way to look at Ibiza as well is that it's THE party place for many Europeans, particularly British, just as India and Thailand seem to be for the Israeli crowd, and Bali seems to be for the Australians (although obviously I'm not saying any of these places are exclusive)... Just a thought, anyway...

Exactly - every artist has different influences - so the fact they produce in the setting of ibiza doesn't matter.
Though I'd argue that the setting affects influences, and influences affect the setting. Which came first, the hen or the egg?

I think it is funny that you talk about other peoples preferences.. Like, "drinking beer and taking pills and dancing with hot chicks"... What other poeple want to do is up to them? I know for sure that most of those people (if they could be bothered) would complain that smelly, unhygenic hippies preaching on about the afterlife were hanging around near where they like to party (but they probably don't do that cause they have to much fun doing what they do). You see, it's just another stereo type like the one you placed upon them....
I also reckon that the end of the "golden age" in Goa has only allowed your scene to progress. I think it is cool that people go wherever they want to go, and do whatever they want to do... at the end of the day, no movement, no evolution.

from what i hear... Cedric (Talamasca) and Samy (CPU) are also on their way to Ibiza... i hardly think their music is going to change (in a fluffy sense), and like nectarios said, house has offered and still has much to offer to our scene.

Ibiza is one of the most natural places to make music in my opinion.           "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

As for the Ibizan influence on the scene, there's a good track to prove Kaz's point.
Shpongle - Dorset Perseption (Total Eclipse Remix) is probably the most Ibizan track ever written by Psy producer, the Balearic vibe is just all over there.
I agree on the point that Ibizan fancy dress code can be murderous to our "dress whatever falls first out of the closet" dress code, and the music will sound better with beer and red bull. But come on, why see negative all the time? Let's think of what can we gain from the situation? David Morales VS Dado co operation can be that deadly? Or maybe Junior Vasquez VS Banzi & Riktam?
I definately prefer that one over the gloomy dark depressive techno trance vibes. Psy Trance and Goa is all about open mindness and give the ppl good vibes.
Atleast give it chance.

seems to me that this current wave of artists moving to ibiza is a positive thing. sharing of ideas in a melting pot of creativity like this is great, and imo the reason why the israeli trance scene has become the focal point of creativity, and its massive influence (and export) for the psy-trance world. israel is a small country with a low population, yet one of the major influences on this nu-wave of creativity is that the artists know each other, genuine friendship exists, and sharing of ideas & collabration is a good thing. Sure israel has its commercial clubs and so on (just like clubs in London, Paris, etc), but this is by-the-by. If psy-trance artists wanted to make house music they would have done so long ago, yet their is no reason why they should, their creative juices have and continue to be psychedelic. If anything these artists know from experince that the psy-scene is growing and is much healther than a few years ago. if they do start to bring in new elements from other genures, i think that is the most open-minded attitude to have. bring back the funk!

I agree with you Astral Mike. IMO what makes artists interesting is the capacity to develop and bring in new and creative elements to their music. Think about it, how long can you stand those formulated-pop songs? They are unabearable exactly because they are all the same.

Besides, I do feel that the environment you are in affects greatly the way you live and work. As for Ibiza, although I have not been there yet, I imagine how trippy and amazingly beautiful the landscapes are, which can only affect positively in the production of psychedelic music. Just like the amazing beaches we have all over here in Brazil.

That's all my opinion of course.

Spot on Mike and Carol...only open-mindedness can progress our music

The strange thing about Ibiza is that while some clubby/housey influences can be heard in some Ibiza psy, different musical tribes don't mix and collaborate as much as one trance artist with another. The scenes still stay away from each other as much as possible on a small island. Last year we did have a regular mixed house/psy night (in a yacht harbour champagne bar), but it didnt feel quite 'right.' It was like 2 parties in one, trancers not going to the house room and vice versa. But there was plenty of friendliness and respect.

So, also to put your mind at rest Kaz, ibiza psy is far off from merging with house, but the common desire to dance and have a good time unites almost everyone on this crazy island.
