I've been to techno parties in the snow in the UK before... They're kinda funny in their own way, but everyone seems to take far more drugs then they usually would because of the cold and it all gets a bit messy. Wouldn't want to do it too often.

Back to the topic though... Back in the late '80's, before there was such a thing as Trance, Ibiza used to be a stop on the hippy, backpacker trail somewhat like goa. It was from Ibiza that the first ecstasy made it's way into Britain and the 'balearic' sound was synonimous almost with the 'goa' sound, both of which were still in their infancy. When I went there 10 years ago there were still a fair few hippies there and there were trance parties, you just had to look for them. The likes of San Antonio and Playa d'en Bossa are tourist, beer-boy hell, but the I thought the place was really nice otherwise when I was there. My sister and her (Israeli, trance-loving) boyfriend are living there this summer so I'm presuming it can't be all that bad, and that there are still some good scenes there.           "One nation under a groove".

Since the closing of the hippy market in goa, there has been no Mecca for psytrance. Goa - the place in the world, not the music, is no longer the center of the psytrance world. It hasn't been for a while. When it was the center, you could obviously hear the influences of that place all around the world - a DJ would return from goa with half his case new.

one of the users of psygarden replied after reading this and watching a line up for a single weekend (this weekend) of parties in Israel... i don't think you realise, but to a lot of people in the world, if it isn't for goa itself, israel is the next best thing!           www.psytracks.com :: Brand new website for sharing your psytracks with the world. I didn't really get the nightmare connection here. If somebody chooses to live on a beautiful island like Ibiza, I say good for him if he can afford it!

imo
goa is still the mecca for psytrancers
its only an individualistic statement that now it is not
yes, it is true that since last 2 years that not many people have travelled to the psy motherland city due to global shit going on

but just see the scene this year. the energy is flowing and its totally differnet. people are back and the essence is still there. the very much same feeling is still there if one is open to sense it.

goa will never die neither will me spirit

Maybe I'm overreacting a bit, but I've been to one too many extasy infested party, when in one of the last ones I was in I actually heard a DJ from Ibiza spin, and it was well... Easy to dance to. everyone on extasy went wild. Very well mixed, very proffesional in sound. The crowd was dressed well. Very well. Too well even. This is what the move to Ibiza means. Ibiza, whether people admit it or not, is the MTV of the electronic music world. I think psytrance should stay away from places like that, so at least something special will remain. A little touch of that uncommunicative psychedelia.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

True Kris, seems O.T.T. to me too

I live on Ibiza...I have not been anywhere apart from Goa that embodies the trance spirit as much as San Juan in the north of the island.
Labels, artists, Djs, designers, studio-buffs and party-heads all meet up for coffee in this tiny village where everyone knows each other. Its alive!

One thing I've learned about Ibiza: impossible to pidgeon-hole. Musically and generally. Its such a vibrant island with dramatically different seasons, people constantly moving and merging - with all respect -its impossible for me to agree with your post kaz.

Theres so much chill-out music (freeform, Ohm-G, Spirit Zone), original tribal stuff (Highlight tribe), techy sounds (Etnica, Nocturnal), dancefloor hits (Spun), psychadelia (MP, Domi Pastor, SpiritZone, Dado, Serge, Antidote), the tribe of frog - HOW IS THIS UNHEALTHY?

I see it as a melting pot for artists, and that includes the odd MTV psy-trance night, a psy night in Priviledge, the worlds biggest club (hearing Dino tracks on that sound system was mind-blowing). Admittedly, small parties are sometimes not well organised cos of the police problems...but its a testament to trance to see 800 people turn up near the beach to dance when the big clubs are doing their utmost to shut them down.

Honestly the music played at most trance parties on Ibiza is not my cup of chai...too euphoric, too exstatic at all times of the night. Maybe this is what Kaz is getting at, but even so, shouldn't Ibiza be respected and cherished for that just as Berlin is for Techno, London for IDM?

With all its quirks...I love this island!

Out of that list under 'psychedelia' the only one I consider psychedelic (and even then, not very much so) is Serge (aka The Antidote), as Spirit Zone are a German label.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

Have you been to ibiza? Maybe you should stay away from there so something special remains...cos special it is....just the sunsets on the island are pure psychedelia.

Btw: SpiritZone have moved to San Juan, Ibiza. No more hamburg offices.

Also SunProject and christof/absolum live and work on ibiza. Its a recurring nightmare

apples and oranges
...way over my head.

A colorful sunset, probably one of the most psychedelic things there is, isn't enough to make music psychedelic, but it can only help if youre producing in those surroundings. A catalyst.
