i didnt come up with this rules...

they were made from the first goa djs like laurent, goa gil, fred disko ,red baron etc .

that was ages back dude .. there is something we call "EVOLUTION" And in thsi time .. there are no rules .. everything is possible.ofcourse there are basic ethics involved in any profession and i agree with you to an extent ..but end of the day its giving people a gooood experience on the floOr .your view is your view mate , we definetly can share ,but dont force it on people. everybody is creative in their own way ..if u dont like , dont listen ..simple .. Have a good day ..Cheers !

Ofcourse no rules.. But these guidelines that olowanpi posted is very good advices...

i agree with them all, but number 2 you can break if something special sound is involved, but only 2 tracks after each other, not more...

Also 3.) good to think about, if you want to show your support, ask them first (the next artist).            3o~ kriz aka krize 3o~ ....Horrordelic Records.... http://www.horrordelic.com

i herby declare the three major rules of what a dj should never ever do...!

1. Never play the same track twice -

- Really depends mate .. it feels good when the same track can be creatively placed the secoend time (defntly after a looong space from the first) also depends on the Djs connexion with the crowd ..sometime when u ve had a good moment with a track ..and u place it again @ the right moment it pretty much gives u the story like feel (unless its a famous track every tom dick and harry has been belting @ that period of time) its definetly gotta be a special track that created a special emotion when first played in the set.ive never tried it ..but would love to experiment with thsi idea @ a party .

2. Never play tracks from the same artist after the other -

- many artistes experiment with diffrant sounds and styles (especially if it is an unrelez track )if the feel is really good @ that moment and you wanna continue the flow for a bit more with more variations, change in energy level etc . then why not . but i would try to avoid it more than once in my set . with a good mix and right track selection prolly it would sound like 1 long (track)situation in the story (also what u feel depends on ur knowledge about music )

3. Never play a track from upcoming liveact that performs at the same party after you -

- ummm..depends on artistes and their personalities ... not everyone feels the same, infact some major acts get really happy when they hear their trax "ofcourse being presented in the right way". i mean as a musician you would love to be a part of the crowd and experience the energy of your own creation and the way the track woeks on people for more production ideas ...and especially if you are talking about released music .. its out for people mate ... why will an artiste play same music that you can go listen at home .. its definetly got to be something special .But there are cases when tracks get leaked sometimes ..use common sence ..if u kno the production is new & fresh ... then u can always enquire a bit about the track with the artiste and maybe even ask permission if u have to . all i can say ..every dj has his/her own style of presenting the track in his story .. but if u wanna try and soudn original .and you have loads of killer music ..you dont need to go through all this.

wel thsi is just some of the thousand possibilities mate ... these are no rules , they are basic ethics any good musician should realise by himself ..no 1 can tel you what to do and what not to do . i do agree with you to an extent , but its just the way u put it across ..seems like uve had bad experience with this ..ehehe .. peace mon !

If you break that rules you should be doomed with trainwrecking and broken mixer

- if the guy is up there on the console Dabbling with music just for name-fame sake .. no secoend thoughts about what you wanna do .....but otherwise .. shanti shanti

and for all the people out there who think this is sarcasm...

THIS IS NOT A JOKE I mean it

- MAYBE ITS NOT A JOKE , BUT NOT A BIG DEAL EITHER

nobody is born perfect ..everyone learns (but plz learn fast.lol)

peace

Dj´s who are wasted during their set is to me perhaps the most unprofessional way of performing. Grow up.

The only rule for a DJ is: Kick Ass.

If that means that you want to grab all 13 remixes of some shitty track and mash them together into a weird amalgamation for 18 minutes, and the crowd is eating it up, do it.

If the headliner is only playing new tunes and you want to tease the crowd with an older track by the headliner to get them more pumped. Do it.

Rules are meant to be broken. Just play a killer set and have fun. Setting limits on yourself is quite unnecessary. Non-attachment and impermanence are the keys. Just do what you do well and with heart.           nlm - http://goaconstrictor.com v4.2

Rule 1 : Don't follow any rules, they are boundaries to limit your creativity.

Rule 2 : Follow rule 1, unless the equipment owner or sound person gives rules per their equipment. Example: no red lines or just simple respect for the ears, equipment and sound quality ..

I would have to dissagree with you on this mate "See, I think drugs have done some *good* things for us, I really do. And if you don’t believe drugs have done good things for us, do me a Favor: go home tonight and take all your albums, all your tapes, and all your cd’s and burn em’. 'Cause you know what? The musicians who’ve made all that great music that’s enhanced your lives throughout the years...
Rrrrrrrrrrrrreal fucking high on drugs."

And that doesn't make them unprofesionnal at all

wow whats with all the negativity for someone posting an idea for some djing rules??

i will have to agee that playing the same track twice can be annoying, and i wonder if the dj has just forgotten that he/she played it already once, or maybe they dont have that much music, or maybe no set worked out so they just grab a track without thinking...

maybe it could be done right, but I havent heard it done well yet?>

but playing the same artist back to back is sometimes the only way to go... i particulary liek doing this as it makes the mix very easy, but sometimes you need that extra bridge to get to the next track.

I def agree that there shouldnt be set rules to djing though,

1 rule i can think of though..
if people arent responding well to your music.. then its time to change it up a bit. stop only playing music you like, and think about the flow of the night and all the other artist as well as the venue the time etc. etc etc....
