Normally I take pix but didn't this time so I could just dance and have a good time. In their place I'm writing a few words:

Major props to the WHOLE crew of peeps who put this together. One kickass international party! And, considering this is only the second SYMBIOSIS. Nice work!! Can't wait to see what happens next year. >:-)

Great deco, sound/sound checks, location (altho the DUSTDUSTDUST could have been managed better), killer vendors and food and of course the AWESOME selection of fresh beats!

Really enjoyed the Saturday nite psytrance line up. The dancefloor was PACKED! Biggest night of the whole gathering which is awesome. Just goes to show you that psytrance continues to kicks ass and keeps on growing.

Was really great to dance again with some (surprise, surprise!) New Yorkers: Dima, Boris (!!) and those 3 Israeli dudes w/the dark sunglasses! >;-) Plus maybe a few more that I was unaware of...

Also, danced with one VERY well-known NY promoter there, too, who was having an absolute BLAST dancing all over the place on Sunday morning...heheh...you know who you are...>;-)

Also found myself sitting next to Obu at one point on Sunday morning when Protoculture (awesome) was on the decks. (I had commented on a pic of him w/Charlie NYC in the background from last year's (?) Burning Man on Tribe.) Hehhehe...>;-) Nice to see you in person, Obu!

And, got to see/dance with Rainbow Man (at least that's what Miss U and I call him) from the Gemini Party @ Belden Town as well as Brine (sp?) in all her rainbow colors, hair included! Yeahbaby!!

Music highlites: X-Dream w/their live, black PVC clad female vocalist, Hallucinogen's killer bouncing morning moves, Pixel's double shot morning set, Ricardo right after X-Dream (I was supposed to say hello to him but ended up going back to get into something more comfortable and meet up with Miss Molly, woohooo! and ahhhyeah!), Trevor Moontribe who laid down some Commercial Hippies, Sun Control Species rocking the floor, Super Protoculture (realized one of his CD's is in my regular rotation schedule, duh) and Krumelur with killer sound beats and bites: ten, nine, eight, six, one, one...three! And, yer only pretty when yer not smiling). Loving it!

All in all a very powerful, mind-bending party...and looking forward to the next one!

MOOCHAS GRASSY-AHHS to everyone! And better pix next time!

>;-)

Psylove,

Nancy

P/S/Y: ohyeah, missed out (arrggghhhh) on Chromatone (Fryday nite)...I would have put him on the Saturday nite line up AND could KICK myself for a miscommunication that resulted in my missing Phutureprimitive. Rain, I'm so bummed I missed you. I *owe* you a raincheck, my friend! >;-)

P/S/Y/Y: Nick Synergy: Niiiiice CD, dude! Thanx! Hope to see you in Airyzona sometime soon! (We were the two fringy psychix sitting on the neon green chairs (next door to you and Treva's camp) cutting fringe and painting fluoro and glitter garter snakes...>;-).

we decided to leave after the incident of the drunken neighbor firing 3 shots off a pistol 40 feet from our tent at 4am saturday morning.

so we didn't see much of the festival, but the porch stage was beautiful (visually) and had very nice sound. our mate Aes Dana (Vincent) was very happy to play for the festival on that stage.

Wow, what a pleasantly mind-blowing weekend. I had expected to enjoy myself, but I had no idea how much fun I would actually have at this year's Symbiosis Gathering. I was unable to attend last year, so I was unsure what to expect. I must say the only thing that could have been improved was the lay of the land. Being lashed to the side of a mountain at a ten degree angle and trying to sleep in that position was a bit of a bummer. Although, with all the audio/visual stimulation going on this weekend, sleep was the furthest thing from my mind for the most part.

The setting, despite not being very conducive to camping, was a perfect backdrop to the plethora of groovy, funky, and glitchy beats emanating from the three stages. The mountain setting provided some beautiful views of nature and helped add to a warm, friendly atmosphere that is lacking in many of the electronic music gatherings I've attended in the recent past. I've never seen so many people who were so genuinely happy and relaxed, and working together to make the weekend that much better an experience for everyone involved.

The weekend started off a little rough Thursday night in selecting a camp spot, but our group finally found a part of the hillside that would suffice. The next morning, surveying the land, it appeared we got the best of what was left for our camping area. After many hours of camp improvements, we were fully set, with our whole group camped around a central seating area (that also made up part of the trail) and a much-appreciated shower just a few yards away. The shade provided by the forest covering the hillside kept the camp area nice and cool, even when the sun was baring down directly overhead. The forest itself was amazing. Living in Phoenix, I don't get much chance to walk through cool forests or take in the view from mountain peaks. Walking in the sunshine and sleeping in the fresh air really helped my body and mind relax and return to a healthier, more natural state, even if for just a few days. The hike up the mountain was steep, but well worth it when rewarded with the view of the valleys and mountainsides all around. Plus, the twisted, gnarled trees growing at the top offered a very surreal and dream-like atmosphere, emanating all kinds of funky energy to those in attendance who chose to visit this small forest growth. This welcome surprise, combined with the breathtaking views, provided an incredibly serene place to escape the crowd for a few moments for some incredibly deep meditation. The wind blowing through the trees mimicked the sound of ocean waves perfectly, and the lack of human sounds (traffic, voices, etc.) helped add to the overwhelming sense of peace I achieved after a few short minutes.

The music at this festival was amazing. I had hoped that at least half the headliners I was looking to see would show up. As it turns out, they all did. Friday night, Aes Dana kept the crowd enraptured. The trancers stomped so hard they broke through the dance floor. I even saw some tears in the crowd, the music was that beautiful. Following up with Manny was a perfect choice to keep the smooth chill beats flowing. The first track he played (I believe it was a track by Kuba) is still haunting my memory today. Saturday night was an explosion of psytrance madness the likes of which I had never before seen. Before I get to that, one caveat. I'm sure that there was a significant sub-group of revelers over the weekend who weren't too particularly interested or impressed by the psytrance, just like the psytrance fans were probably a little less than enthused by the hippie jam bands. I would like to have seen a group that encompasses both sides of the festival (i.e. Sound Tribe Sector Nine, Rusted Root, G Love and Special Sauce, etc.). Electronic hippie jam bands would add a little connection between the two very distinct genres being showcased at this event. That being said, a lot of the non-psytrance music I heard was very entertaining, just a little disparate from what else was being played.

This was the first time I'd heard Treavor Moontribe, and that's a shame. This guy had one of the tightest psytrance sets I've heard in a long time, and he was able to get the crowd really shaking. X-Dream rocked! There's no other way to state it. I had never seen them live before, and I was blown away with the energy created in the crowd by their set. And Ariel has to be the hottest front-chick ever (trumping both Shirley Manson and Deborah Harry). Ricardo threw down some wicked beats that kept the crowd moving right into Hallucinogen. Oh my god! No matter what kind of person he may be in person (and I heard some things that seem to indicate he can be less than friendly), Mr. Posford knows his trance! I kept moving and grooving through his entire set, despite the sharp pain setting in in my lower extremities. And even though he played the same song a couple times (different mixes), I still danced my ass off to both versions. Pixel was also amazing. As soon as he dropped that first track, the whole OMW crew in the immediate vicinity erupted into mad, frenetic dancing. Hahn in particular dominated the trance floor through the whole evening. I felt sorry for the smaller people who happened to be standing in his path. Once the beat grabs him, he becomes an unstoppable machine of trance madness. Protoculture and Sun Control Species both tore up the field, but by that time the combination of direct sunlight and extreme weariness forced me back to base camp for some much needed R&R. Having the chill set in the afternoon by Ott made Sunday a great day. I got to hang out with Paul from GoaPlay, which was a very interesting experience. He is a genuinely good person, and he loves the music he brought us. Thanks to him and the rest of GoaPlay for promising and delivering a stellar show. I'd have paid double and not complained.

Let me say, this experience was one of the most comfortable camping experiences I have ever had. The food vending was excellent, and not too expensive either. The food was delicious (huge thumbs up on the salmon), and it was great having a coffee bar available when the batteries were running a little low. The artwork on display was amazing. Next time I'll have to budget enough to make a purchase or two. The facilities were cleaned daily, which was a huge plus. Multiple days of festival waste piling up is a very bad thing. It was also nice that you guys kept hosing down the dance areas to keep the dust down. And the misters you hooked up Sunday morning rocked! If feasible, that would be a good addition to the entire weekend. All in all, you guys really showed those of us who made the effort to come out how an event of this kind should be run. You set a new standard for outdoor festivals, and those of us who are planning our own should have taken extensive notes. I know I did.

Thanks again for making it all happen. Also, the Overmind Works crew took lots of pictures and video, and will have those posted online soon.

Agreed with Karma here on pretty much all counts (except for the beauty of Aes Dana do to illness causing me to miss him). CO-Sign.

"Walking in the sunshine and sleeping in the fresh air really helped my body and mind relax and return to a healthier, more natural state, even if for just a few days."

Yes, you see, mine experienced a similar effect and then experienced an amplification so profound that reason and logic flowed from my mind like fine wine for several days (and still going strong), and the effect was so strong that it frightened and confused and entertained and enlightened and surprised the people around me, and continues to, now having taken its effect onto the internet to provide supreme ranting and heavy attempts to drop science.

The music at this festival WAS amazing, as were pretty much all other aspects of it. The PEOPLE who put it together and so many of the PEOPLE who made it happen to attend were ALSO amazing. There wasn't a huge crowd there to see everything, but this created an intimately-sized crowd of REALLY cool people who REALLY wanted to be there. It was incredible that the porta-johns were cleaned regularly (unlike so many other psytrance parties I've been to) and that GoaPlay dotted all i's and crossed all t's.

In regard to hippie jam bands and rock music and ANYONE's distaste for them, I offer the unique prospect of coming up next year and playing a set of really, REALLY good classic rock. Whaddya think, not cool enough?

I might have to argue on whether Mr. Posford knows his trance. He knows his music. He apparently doesn't listen to trance, so I don't know what kind of music he was playing or if he was actually listening to it while doing so, but I'm so glad I finally got to see him and I'm more thankful to Paul for doing what it takes to book him than I am at this point for the presence of Simon or his music. To answer Micah's observation, he didn't really play too many dual versions of the same track, he recycled bits and pieces of them of his choosing and just sort of threw them in as he damn well pleased. It was fucking Twisted, Shpongled, all that. I'm glad I got to finally hear and meet the guy, even though I don't think he understood what I tried to tell him. I'll tell him again, though: Thanks Simon! Loved it and all your work! Say hi to your friends (and in some cases, mine) at your 10-year anniversary, which I'd love to go to. I'd have gone to that instead of this (perhaps) had the Twisted or affiliate promo team notified me sooner. I'd have spent the money, for sure. I sure hope that Rain has a blast playing out there - he deserves it!

Treavor DID in fact play one of the tightest sets ever, and DID in fact give X-Dream some justice as a warmer-uper. It is so entertaining to see that man get into his set and bob his head with CONVICTION. X-Dream DID appear with all members and they DID kill it. They DID achieve Trance Domination, of myself, of Hahn the Fucking Barbarian (a hard-to-please Trance Trooper who danced harder and groovier and with more down&dirty funk and Trance Domination than I've EVER seen before), and of EVERYONE who got to hear them. Paul and his team are responsible for that too, and they are personal heroes because of it. X-Dream are now fully personal heroes for having opened with The Frog and then immediately following with Our Own Happiness. I was in Goa Trance heaven for a while! Ariel had a Patricia Quinn from Rocky Horror kind of hotness going on, and that was neat. A local Phoenix hotshot (who shall remain nameless) Electro House DJ who claims to be some kind of pioneer/master in the field would have made great sacrificial fodder for Ariel and X-Dream as they played material from "We Interface."

All the music on Sunday morning was stellar. Paul is again a hero for bringing Protoculture and Sun Control Species. These two gentlemen are very talented and nice, stand-up, talk-to-you kinda dudes. I do hope they enjoy the trance CDs they so sincerely said they'd take home and listen to. Thanks also to Mr. Manning from Psybooty and Mr. Conan for the sick fucking house. Wish I'd heard more of that stuff, but I'd love to come and play some sometime.

I'd have paid four times as much, not complained, paid for Convergence's Salmon every day and paid for every meal of the day from the vendors and given each of the wonderful headliners who I came to see a LARGE cash tip, and still not complained, and still praised each and every person in GoaPlay for their noble efforts. I'd have done all that AND still asked if Simon was giving the promoters a bit of stress and if I could politely talk to him for them. I'd have done all this AND still called this the best event I've ever been to in my life, called the people of GoaPlay heroic and noble, and state that it was legendary - one of THE best events to have transpired on planet earth, HANDS DOWN.

Special thanks to Dave of BassMaxx for the killer subs. Groans to whoever blew some stuff and took down half his system (watch your damn levels).

These guys thought of everything. These guys DID everything. I wish every trancer in the world who can appreciate that would have been there to buy a ticket. I bought one and spent a bunch of other money to get there, and now still wish I could have given more. My heart is big, I guess, because I wish that ALL my friends could have been there despite any reservations they may have had.

GoaPlay rules and I will attend as many of their events as I possibly can.

Thanks to all who accepted a copy of my cd and kudos to all who listened to it.

Thanks to the epiphany of self-esteem and energy and healing and out-and-out overall life restructuring this event had on me. I have newfound personal glory.

I forgot to thank some very important people as well that without them things just wouldn't have been the same.

Dave Able, Vanessa, Goolie, Mike, Allison, and all of the Radiant Atmospheres and Coil crew for creating them most amazing psychedelic light show I have ever seen anywhere!!

Scott Young and Pater for being the jacks of all trades and fixing, building, repairing, hauling, digging, whatever it was that was asked of you!

The entire Symbiosis crew is one of the most amazing groups of people I have ever seen work TOGETHER! You simply would not believe the amount of different people from different backgrounds and walks of life that it took to make all of this happen. This was by all definitions a community event that I was proud to have been a small part of )

BTW, the sound system amps didn't blow the fuses were just tripped for them and they were all back on by the time that Pixel was done with his set. So the full bassmaxx system is still fully operational and ready to brodcast the message at future events!!

Saturday morning I was standing with Turtle who summed up the whole experience perfectly. It was just getting light and we were hanging out in the camping area traveling along in psychedelic space with Mr. Posford when he turned to me and said with a big smile on his face,

"I like it here!"

I chuckled at the simplistic beauty of his statement and relied,

"I like it here, too!"           Laughter is the shape that darkness took around the first appearance of light.

Mr. Posford said that? COOL! When I talked to him, he said to me, "I like your earplugs!" I said to him, "Thanks, I like them too!"
