It would be cool to sell psychedelic trance CDs through Bodegas around New York City. Or ....you could sell Psychedelic Trance CDs out of the back of your car at outdoor psychedelic trance parties.

OK, here's the deal.

I was just in Green Sector.

They are liquidating all their music.

Every CD, every vinyl... CD's were $5 a pop, and we're talking some good shit here. I snagged 25 psytrance CDs.

I'm friends with the owner, so I ask him what's happening here, and he says "no one buys music".

So barring the occasional party, Southern California is officially tranceless.

I don't need to tell any of you, you're the enthusiasts, but please encourage others to buy. If you DJ and people are asking "where did you get these great tunes?" pass on the name of a good online shop. If you live within driving distance of a record store -- any kind of records -- selling psy, support them. And ask for more. Be a mini-distributor if you can. Sell at your parties, or friend's parties.

I think it's bad for humanity in general to regard any art product as worthless. That's how the mega-conglomerates take over... when the artists have no money, all you have left is product.

Folks, I know you gotta do this for love. But FUCK the starving artist paradigm.           tiger got to hunt,
bird got to fly,
man got to sit and wonder why, why, why?
tiger got to sleep,
bird got to land,
man got to tell himself he understand.

Green Sector is a record store on the west coast? Do they have an online website?           my cat is deathly afraid of aluminum foil

As uncle bob said previously, Green Sector is a brick and mortar store located in Tarzana (the valley outside LA) and in Santa Monica. No online sales.

I wanted to say, just from observation and maybe assumption, most of the people who attend events here (events which I think are more frequent than 'occasional', as Inu said), people go to parties to hear the music. They don't buy CDs. They probably don't listen to it outside of parties. If they do it might be on a webstream or maybe a mix cd a friend made for them.
I just don't see psytrance listeners as consumption oriented as mainstream music listeners. People get their fix at parties, and it's usually a big enough fix that it lasts till the next party.

Just a thought...

Ok, I might have wrote in haste with that "occasionally". L.A. has a good scene, but it's not San Francisco... grass is always greener and all...

I'm afraid the record-store part really is going away. GS may get rid of their stock online but I don't see them ordering more. Also, the store owner's brother (Wyse) is the big music guy. He left to help run the alternative books shop next door.

I was just there again today. Bought 14 vinyls, and a Nodens Ictus CD -- I have one but it'll make a nice gift for a friend (silver lining ).           tiger got to hunt,
bird got to fly,
man got to sit and wonder why, why, why?
tiger got to sleep,
bird got to land,
man got to tell himself he understand.

Rich, I hear what you're saying. Not every joy in psytrance sits on a shelf.

I do think it'll help parties to have more visible record sales. "it's just party music" is the prevailing attitude but psy developed for home listening is usually better and more complex. I like to play what I enjoyed as a listener, just with a slant to the dancefloor.

Or we could go back to Goa in `94, with all tracks unreleased? :/ I don't know, it could go either way.           tiger got to hunt,
bird got to fly,
man got to sit and wonder why, why, why?
tiger got to sleep,
bird got to land,
man got to tell himself he understand.

I think the main problem with HoT is their prices and selection. I would shop there more regularly if they had the new CDs I'm looking for. The last few times I was there, the only records I wanted to buy were some old-school releases that I've previously missed, but at $22 a pop those don't seem like a huge bargain to me. But if they were discounted at $10-12 each, I would get maybe five at a time...

Well also there was some personal shit between HoT and our crew that I would rather not go into, but I'm hearing they're ready to put it behind.

Oh and I should also mention that despite all the personal shit they were always welcoming when we came in to their store as regular customers.

Here's an update on psychonaut in Montreal, Canada. Our website is finally up and running. There is an online store so most of our ethno botanics can be ordered (salvia, san pedro, hawaiian baby woodrose, seed etc....) .

The cd stocklist and order will follow sometime soon.
