When we had a store down here in Ft. Lauderdale I would buy anything released @ the time or CDs or vynil I did not get online. Even if their selection was a tad limited it really was cool to have a place to hear the music, meet fellow trancers and spread the vibes. I would even sell CDs for them if I happen to be @ the store Just letting the customers know about those must haves!!

i've been in the US for a few months and not having a high speed connection here i've been asking about stores...
where are there stores that sell good very up to date cd's in the US? i will be in new york in about a month.

about buying cd's and not burning them...i totally agree. i have a friend that has been speaking to penta, penta actually offered to send him some of his music, but he wouldn't have it without paying for it. this is how the artist's make money. alot of artist's had to stop making their music because of lack of funds. so people should really do anything they can to help the artist's out...

oh, i knew there was another post i need to respond to...

i highly recommend Chaos Existence as the best online shop in the US. they used to (until a couple weeks ago) have a store front in portland, oregon, but now they are exclusively online(and by appt.)

Mauricio is a great friend, a great dj (fractalien), and he really goes out if his way to help his customers and the scene. he can special order anything and his is the ONLY shop that lets you listen to the ENTIRE track online (low bandwidth, but it beats a 45 sec sample anyday) =

btw, i want to mention how tough it is to compete with psyshop and saiko. there's basically no distributors in the US, so one is faced with either getting releases fast (at a higher cost) or waiting for wirikuta to send it via austrian post, which means you get the release 2 weeks after everybody wants to buy it. and i doubt there is any store in N. America that can sell 10-20 copies of the newies (shpongle and IM excepted of course).

having a friend in the biz has reinforced my commitment to buying the music to help support the artists and the scene. copy killz the music you love

check them out at http://www.chaosexistence.net/music.asp

I have purchased from chaos existence in the past. All my experiences have been great. He accomodates your needs. Occassionally gets some very rare old releases, too.

You can also find him selling many new and old releases, as well as music hardware and other items, on ebay. You can sometimes get new releases this way at a substanial discount.

Just got some cds from http://elektrolust.com. Their selection is small...but their CD prices are VERY low! And no matter how many CDs you order, shipping is only $2.

They can't possibly be making any money. I paid less than $9 per CD + $2 for shipping. There is $1.83 of postage on the envelope, and the padded envelope probably cost $0.50, so they even lost a little money on shipping.

Seattle's all trance store (Frequency-8) is now gone (its only online), but never really had a good psytrance section anyway.

I have to give super props to Mauricio and Helen at Chaos Existence. Not only are they the coolest and nicest people, their shop is excellent. Support Chaos Existence!

I suggest Green Sector in the LA area. They currently have one in Tarzana and one in Santa Monica.........You can listen to anything they have before buying.

To top that, the Tarzana store is combined with his brother's snowboard shop. You can pick up new duds, gear, and choice quality Psytrance at one stop. They have fliers for current upcoming parties and even sell tickets for parties in the area.

Home of Trance who used to be House of Trance, has a very bad reputation, there was an event a while back in 1998 in Washington D.C., Etnica, Darshan, MFG, Space Tribe & More and they were selling presale tickets in New York for this party, they sold about 200 tickets or more and never gave the money to the promoters who had already lost money at the party and needed every bit to even come close to breaking even, we are talking like $5000.00, so I dont know obout the new owner, but the old ones who were running it, where thiefs, so personnally I would never support liars and thieves. sorry for the negetivity, but this issue has never been brought up.

last time i went to home of trance i had a very nice conversation with one of the employees there. she helped me pick out the specific sound i was looking for, was patient, helpful and not pushy. she then gave me a headsup to this amazing backdrop from india they just got in and since i was buying alot of items gave me a discount on it. HOME of trance is an excellent store and should be patronized by the local trance community.

I dont know about old owners old experiences. they also ship promptly for online sales. an excellent source and the hub of the nyc trance scene.

Personally, i HATE homotrance store(do they realize that's what "home of trance" sounded like with a NEW york accent?!?!)

i've been going there for about 7 or so years, maybe more even.

when it was run by the older israeli guys, VERY nice, very cool place, relaxing you could check out some albums, talk to the peopl there. They held the store up for my buddy when he was getting a ticket and had to run to the atm. Very cool, prices then were a little high, but fuck then it was hard to get goa on the net. CHEAPER than it is today too i believe, and they were MUCH cooler. I remember they hosted open dj night there? sounded real coool

after that i foudn it went down hill and downhill poorly. There was some newer more aggressive really asshole blunt guys working there. Not the old cool guys i used to chat with. You chat with them they act condescending like they know more. When in fact, i do believe i know a good amount bout psy and goa. I was looking around i asked a few questions a a few times and they never understood. they're always really big assholes.

the girl who works there is really cool, really friendly, really helpful, and is not an asshole.

one time i remember going in there and talking to her for a bit, had a decent conversation about psy in general. then the guy came out(the asshole...well as if there's any non asshole guys that work there, so i guess there is no "THE" asshole...), and started harrassing me. and just giving me shit. I didn't need that.

Each time i've walked in there asking for something I couldn't get at tower records or virgin(most of the shit they have in that story is VERY easy to get ANY place...for about $10 cheaper), they've said i never heard bout that " it must not be good" bla bla bla same old shit. and never have what i'm looking for, and asking for shit like exeogenic records i just get a lot of attitude, and they don't even knwo the label. Iask for some ozpsy or suomi saundi. And while many might know what that is, A TRANCE STORE WORKER SHOULD>_< >_< >_<

I'm sorry but i really hate them, and i wouldn't be sad if they went out of business. And fuck that they're not the center of the trance scene for new york. It's the people who make it up who are it. It's not 95 anymore, there's a widely available internet to find out what's going on...

and that's another thing, how are htey going to compete with online if they're charging such high prices? each time i buy a cd from there i feel very ripped off, wasn't treated properly. And i never bought a cd from there i've actually liked. They have to learn they're competing against mp3s and online stores, they really don't have a monopoly on the trance in ny.

I also feel maybe the attitudes changed when psy became more "elitist" if ya know what i mean? before mid 98 99 trance in ny was very friendly, but now when i go out or talk to anyone i feel that i get this attitude. maybe i'm just paranoid. But i feel it's gotten exponentially worse in home of trance

i'm hoping the new owner of that store is cooler, i'll have to check itout. I really don't hardly go anymore to that place cuz of the previous owners.

I'm not for supporting them if they're guna be such pricks! but hopefully this guy will be a much better owner, more friendly, less condescending, and less discriminatieve(i felt that if i wasn't israeli i would be treated very poorly)

ALSO! please STOP selling all that stupid shit no one ever seems to buy, it's like chinatown in the area in the bakc, with prices WAY high, REMEMBER THIS IS NEW YORK that shit is READILY available anywhere for ULTRA cheap...

oh yea i ag ree with what was said before. THROB are really really cool and really really friendly. I like that store a lot. (haven't been there in a long while maybe it's changed, i just buy cds online now), but they were really friendly, showed me some good stuff i wasn't even looking for...

but hopefully it'll be better now, the global trance store:)

Stop complaining and do something!
Open your own trance store!
How about a "Jersey trance" store in Newark?
You could sell CDs for half the cost of global trance, and run them out of business!

How does HoT even stay open? Do they sell enough product? It never seemed that way. Perhaps they are doing something on the side ;-)

Don't get too worked up people, it's just a joke!
