because they are poorly programmed, alias like crazy when heterodyning, and have none of the intrinsic grit of a real analogue passive ring modulator with germanium diodes. you can knock one up for about 10 quid in parts. i made one back in 1995 and it's still in use! about the most simple circuit you can build. google "passive ring modulator". you'll need about 20dB after the output to get it back up line level due to insertion loss.

if only ring mod was sounding like crap
i think we may still not have a proper great analog sounding oscillator in soft/digital. |

i'm totally with zellata here. more porn pics of studios and less talking about fx.
every time i see this topic updated i hope to see some new pics of additional gear to studios i've seen before or better yet fresh pics from studios i've never seen before.
and what do i get lately? lots of talk about ring modulation!
darn it!

custom desk sounds nice too
those speakers are fat!
hopefully not too big for that room...
and you still got enough space left for a freaky modular synth set-up

there is 21 m^3 of fluffy fiberglass in the room (the best material when talking about big depth of porous absorption), some walls (front and back) are 60 cm.
10 to 100 Hz "RT60" is < 200 ms.
for the decoration, the photo doesn't do really justice. The room feels nice, very warm with all the wood, and it smells really nice (wood again). It feels very comfortable and relaxing !
Since it is primary a mastering room, all unnecessary stuff is out !
edit : and yes it sounds really great.
- Room is very dry from a "speakers->listener" point of view, slat sound scattering at first reflection points gives a wider sound stage without coloration (no spikes above -20 dB in the ETC).
- Reflexive floor + slats scatering give some cues for self noises : the room doesn't feel dead.
And with lot of absorption + PMC's transmission line loading -> low end is incredibly tight !
