can t find the old thread..
SPECIFICATIONS & FUNCTIONS
Construction
Sturdy steel chassis, 31 pots, 2 rotary switches, 18 toggle switches––15 three way for expanded functionality, through hole circuit boards, AC power adaptor.
Sound Generation
All discrete circuity. Hand matched transistors in filter and amplifier.
Oscillator 1
6 position rotary range switch; Two center off toggle switches select combinations of sine, triangle, saw and square waveforms; Pulse width for square waveform; Sub oscillator with center off toggle switch for half and full level positions; Sync oscillator 2 to oscillator 1 switch.
Oscillator 2
6 position rotary range switch; Three position toggle switch to select triangle, saw or square waveform; Fine tune pot; Mod depth pot with center off toggle switch to select modulation by envelope 1 or 2; Keyboard tracking on-off switch.
Filter / Envelope 1
Frequency and resonance pots; Center off toggle switch to select half and full keyboard tracking; Envelope mod depth pot; Additional mod depth pot with center off toggle to select modulation by oscillator 2 or the LFO. Envelope 1: Attack, decay, sustain, and release pots; Center off toggle switch to select envelope invert or envelope loop.
Filter Types
4075-classic Arp 2600, 5089-classic Moog® 24db ladder, SEM-classic Oberheim® 12db (full function, with LP to HP mix control), 303-classic Roland® TB.
Envelope 2
Attack, decay, sustain, and release pots; Center off toggle switch to select envelope invert or LFO gate trigger; Single or multiple triggering switch; Center off toggle switch to select drone and envelope 1 as master. With master selected, envelope 2 is the modulator for both the amplifier and filter frequency. Envelope 1 remains active for oscillator 2 frequency and oscillator 1 pulse width modulation.
XMod
Oscillator 2 mod depth pot with center off toggle switch to select modulation of oscillator 1 pulse width or oscillator 1 frequency.
LFO
Rate pot; Midi sync on-off switch; Waveform pot––sine, triangle, saw up, saw down, square, offset square 1 and 2, random and slew random waveforms; Mod depth pot with center off toggle switch to select oscillator 1 frequency or oscillator 1 pulse width; Mod depth pot with center off toggle switch to select oscillator 2 frequency or oscillator 2 pulse width.
Amplifier
Center off toggle switch to select two levels of overdrive; Volume pot.
Additional
Master tune pot; Bend range pot; Glide time pot: Dynamics to filter frequency pot; Envelope 1 to oscillator 1 pulse width pot.
Front Panel Jacks
CV in, Gate in; Filter frequency modulation in; Amplifier modulation in; Oscillator out; External signal in.
Back Panel Jacks
Midi In, Midi Out, 1/4" Audio out, DC power input.
Back Panel Switches
Learn switch: Select midi channel, note priority, aftertouch and mod wheel assignment; Tap tempo for LFO.
Overflow Switch
For polyphonic "Boom-Starring."

303 filter
woodster from a guy from S.e its supposed to sound closer to a sh5 than a 101 that use curtis vco and different filter ship (same as jupiter 6)
i wonder if the vcos are based on a synth?
anyway it sound good to me

the arp seems maybe the more vanilla but sound good,
the 303 really give a roland caractere that is great
the moog..well moogish.. sound really good to me

Isn't the Sem module, multimode?
That would probably be my choice.

yeah multimode and probably with a pot to "morph" from one to a other.. dont really know how it work.
original sem filter sound great , i think it don t selfresonate that can be a good or bad thing
btw what do you think about the moog?
these synth offer good bang for the buck to me..good sound and lot of feature packed.

About the Moog I don't know.
I think you might as well get A Moog, like the Slim or Sub Phatty, both with 4 filter poles to choose from.
I'd have to compare them feature wise to make up my mind if you're getting a better deal with the Boomstar.
Judging by the demo it seems to sound brighter than my Phatty, and more 303-ish, which I actually like.
But also the 303 could be great I think, more or less a TB-303 with many more features, minus it's sequencer of course.
And going by this price, there's also the Mfb Dominion X synth and for a couple hundred more there's the 4 voice Elektron Analog 4.

this can fm vco and filter, sync and ring , you have just the 4pole moog filter though.
this demo kinda convinced me more than what i heard from newer moog subphatty synth but it s not the same sound, hard to judge like this
the 303 would be great indeed..i wish i could afford 2 or more it can be chained to be polyphonic too

Real FM, without the need to sacrifice the Lfo for it?
I really like its more aggressive sound, makes me doubt if I should keep my Moog

it sure stoped my lust for any newer moog synth in that price range instanely.
studio electronics is very well regarded company for the sound of their synth so i think this will deliver, this company is maybe not well known for lot of people but they have great ones like the atc.. we lusted this so much back in the days.

yeah it s one of the vco that is used to fm filter or vco.
XMod
Oscillator 2 mod depth pot with center off toggle switch to select modulation of oscillator 1 pulse width or oscillator 1 frequency.
filter can have lfo or vco2 mod
seriousy lot of great feature, check the lfo part
let see the price in euros

Never heard of them before actually
But there's one for sale here, the Studio Electronics ATC-Xi Quad Filter including all 4 filters (minimoog, sem, tb303, arp2600) for 900 Euros.
