the arp filter self resonate the lowest.. the original one is known to be good at kicks.. then it s moog, then 3003, sem i don t think it self resonate or not much..and acutally really like that, heard some gread leads with lot of resonance and that sem drive that can sound so good on the oberheim one..

yeah supposed to make 808 kick even better than the 808 itself.

maybe that boomstar gonna make really good psy kick who know.. i think in the gearslutz thread someone mentioned the envelop/vca are more snappier/faster than the arp

from the demo the arp filter since to have less caractere compared to the 303 and moog filter though.. hard to judge..but it feel more gentle..

really wish it was 400 euros..i would just get 2 and dont bother

They sound kinda dull though...not sure, but they lack something in the top end, as if the VCF does not open all the way (like my Slim Phatty), could be my idea though

U sure?
Imho it sounds brighter than the Phatty.

But where's the SEM filter demo?

there is definitely some moog charactr going on. personally i do not like that. tried moog, not my cup of tea at all. yes the filter is quality and the sound stellar, but the sound aesthetics simply do not touch me. taste and that..

agree the distortion sounds phat!

do you like more that type of sound?

who would get one in a heart beat if it was sounding like this?

Yup, had another listen comparing them to the Phatty, they are brighter than the Phatty, they are like the Minitaur, which is great, bright but not brittle.

indeed when relistening after your comented i found them a bit on the dark side ..slighty brighter i wouldn t mind ,i was thinking with the flux it might be a bit too much for some sounds..but these sound great to me.

i like the darker sound of the moog phatty too for bass and some leads it s great..we need a bit of everyhting..like color to paint

Slightly dark the Boomstars but they sound good, I do add some top end to Phatty patches, some need more than others, but it has its sound, very different to the Minitaur. At the end of the day, I have found that by dipping some 350-500hz and adding some spark, it sounds great.
Now what sounds like a nicely balanced synth, is the SubPhatty...damn Moog synths ....they cost a lot and generally seem like a re-hash of the Model D...but they keep adding just few things to make you wonder all the great sounds you could make with them.

mf 101 can be find for around 100/200 euros second hand.. with the boomstar 303 /arp/sem filter that would make a good setup for the price

But you can't control the MF-101 as you can control the VCF of the Boomstar that is built into the architecture of the synth, unless the CV out of the Boomstar is very comprehensive, something I have no idea about.

the vcos are based on moog design.

The Moog® filter employed in all our own synths is a clone, except that in the Boomstar 5089, a 3046 replaces the original hand-matched transistors in the top and bottom of the ladder. The resonance produced is lovely; it sits perfectly along with the signal, singing out, but never dominating

The Arp filter is very faithful to the original 4075 circuit, and the 3003 and S.E.M are near identical twins* as well, with some design license taken by Tim Caswell (in respect to all the filters). The VCA in the BoomStar is the MiniMoog® VCA which we used in the SE-1(X) as well
