If you listen to various releases usually the spectral balance will be quite similar within a given genre.

Make a playlist with a bunch of tracks from different releases and switch around between the tracks.
From the five releases I compared with the snippet you uploaded has noticeably less bass.

i think spacecats mastering is some of the best out there...
-5 mastering of his own tracks, great loudness, great roundness..
good dynamics

to hear he is 'shit' only makes me shudder at what crap people must really be listening too... and considering good production

I hear Charles @ Solead can perform miracles when mastering dark psy. Just listen to the last releases by Nabi Records

Also Johannes @ Silicon Sound does really great mastering, at least all the releases I've heard from him (Phatmatix album and Ministry of Chaos VA)

And Artifakt well he is very good as well, I don't recall ever having heard a bad track coming out of his lab, but well I can't judge since I don't hear the music unmastered thank god

imo, nightvision's mastering sounds very good. i can speak more properly for my tracks, and the results were outstading.

imho (and for my music), cat did a better job than schuldt did on ne3 (zaikadelic).

cheers!           https://www.facebook.com/BiijahRecords

cool... glad you're happy with it

as a person who forked out his hard earned cash I still think it sounds bad... and even if I'm the only thinking this... as a label selling a product they should take not of consumer wnats and needs... I'll probably never buy another Avatar release.          --- Love In Light, Dance In Darkness ---

its strange, since its the first real bad review regarding this aspect of the cd. it sold very well at saikosounds (sold out now) and its been playing around by many experienced djs.

maybe you were on a bad day, bad monitoring, party with ugly girls hehehehe or maybe the system you tested was real bass-freaked out!
who knows??

here in brazil we always have issues on parties with fucked-up systems, so i'd rather make my soundchecks on my dear yamaha hs80m and with other studio monitors at some friends place. we play the same tracks on different party system and mostly one or some of them will need a quick eq to make it better. and our tracks were mastered by cat, schuldt and even by ourselves.

=)

i just dont think thats a reason for not buying other avatar cds.

(dont need to mention that im an avatar recs artist hehe and that avatar got lots of nice stuff released over the past decade.)

but if you really think of sticking to this idea, too bad you have such a narrow-minded perspective. gonna miss good things like goa gil's mixes and other nice stuff thats on their cast. =)

keep it up,
regards!

He is doing the new DIGICULT album now and it will be great.

But people don't always think it's the mastering that did it, how better the artist makes his music, the less mastering that is needed.
I you are a good producer, in mastering they should just put your track to 0dB.

Also a lot of labels can't pay for mastering, and they do it themself, becouse if the cd gets more downloaded in mp3, why should you pay for mastering?

Rather than come here and actually make a direct assault on someone's Mastering skills (or lack thereof) why don't you learn how to master yourself? Or flip that freq when ur mixing - that's what mixing is all about!!!!!

Do you want it all on a plate for you?

Moaning about it shows your lack of professional mixing ability!

Perhaps if you could show us your awesome mixing skills and, even better, explain just why it is you cannot mix so good, we may understand.

As I know, it it against the forum guidelines to start an attack on people, and you left psynews in a flurry of bad language and bad feelings, yet you still create bad karma topics here.

Get over yourself mate !

sorry for using bad word but thats complitly B.S..

in order to do a proper mastering you need equipment..expensive one! and no,i dont think waves bundle is enough, nor even uad or powercore alone..you must have ANALOG PROCCESOR-compressors,channels at leat one of them.

now, lets say you have equipment..do you think its good to make your own mastering?
my answer here is no..you must have another ear in the procces.

and do you think you become a mastering thecnician over night?not even over few years..

nobody is moaning about nothing..evrybody who has a job and gets money for it should do it on the best side thats all.

I cannot say that the release sounds bad since I haven't heard it, but judging by the snippet makus uploaded the spectral balance is different compared to what is standard with releases in a similar style.
If you think that's good, fine, but I could easily show you that it has less bass in a spectral analyser if you cannot hear it yourself.

How many psytrance releases do you think are mastered on top-end analouge equipment with a excellent mastering engineer?
It would be nice if most where, but unfortunately it's hard to pay €100 per track for mastering when you sell 500-1000 copies.
If you think it's a must to get good results I'm afraid you have to listen to big commercial releases from the major labels.

I think using digital is a great way to save on costs, and you can achieve very good results without analogue equipment, in some cases even better depending on the desired outcome.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)
