My stuff has UAD written all over it and i shun most native software over those. True they are more of a mixing and vibe sort of thing but recently they have started offering more effects (looking forward to trying the mxr out when i get back from touring)
I feel that i get to where i want faster than with native stuff ie. i have to spend less time getting it right. Also having bought into this whole dsp thing forces me to make the most of it and that helps me as well. Most important is the sound which i feel is second to none and yes i have done side by side comparisons with the waves stuff. If you cannot hear a difference then you need better speakers simple as that. Sure there is a cost of ownership but updates are frequent and new additions to the lineup will be even more frequent now that they have opened up the platform to outside devs. I will say this though. the basic plugs that come with it are well basic but useful and especially the 1176 is my favourite among them. To get your hands on the really cool stuff you have to get out your wallet. I make money on music, so i have therefore no qualms about forking over money for tools that help me. Having such stuff tied heavily to what some seem to think is a hardware dongle (i will not get into a realtime processing platform versus a wait and see native solution here) also means that i have a modicum of uniqueness available to me since this is not something everybody can just go and download.
I was at first quite taken in by the soundtoys but now i rarely turn to them. Not that i find them bad, i actually really like the sound of them, but i have something nicer to play with iŽd rather use
your milage may vary but you need your ears checked out if you cannot get really good results with UAD. I doubt this many people would buy it if they did not feel it had something to offer. After all there is a ton of plugs available so why arenŽt people using them as much? Or at least buying them iŽd add

imo what make uad intresting is that some plugins are exclusive to this plateform and have no real replacment in native format.
sound quality there is also excellent native plugins , it make the number one motivation to go to uad their exclusivity with some brands like manley ,culture vulture, api. |
