I think we are rationalizing this a bit much. I feel like the trance experience is in its post modern phase as we deconstruct everysingle aspect of it. I think in the past just cool ppl did a great party with a bunch of close friends. Great expression and experimentation happen. It was some kind of synergy where they went through incredible lengths to celebrate the right here and now. Ppl did not count ratios they just did it... and they were men, women, gay, multicolored, multicultural with one thing in common Trance... and they had friends that were open minded, and yes some of those cool friends were girls, some gay, some guys, any color, any culture... and yes they love this cosmic get togethers where ppl painted each other, exchanged ideas, philosophies, mystical experiences, built structures, played and made music... It was as if the moment was everything and the experience fill the air regardless of headcount and democratic organizations with equal representation. |

The L.A. scene seems very much to be a male-dominated industry, just like other factions of the entertainment biz (like motion picture & TV industries) - even the promoters, label runners, DJs, artists, ect. the majority are men. But as soon as you go north, as close as San Fran and beyond, women in the movers & shakers part of the scene are much more commonplace. Heck in BC (Canada), even female emcees are quite the norm, as well as DJs of all genras. I have noticed the further north you go, this differentiation between male/female just doesn't seem to exist.
I am one of the few female full-on DJs in SoCal, and still I seem to get booked elsewhere moreso than here in L.A. - YOOHOO, L.A. PROMOTERS! Girl DJs attract GIRL Dancers!!! Even old Crone Goddess non-27 year olds like me bring out a more feminine vibe. Even the boys like the girl DJs. I have yet to get booked at the ranch. I would LOVE to play a party at the ranch more than anything.
FYI - Breakbeats are mostly a male-dominated genre too. There are more girl DJs in the breaks scene, though.
fyi - my web site is updated, sporting new upcoming events and links:
