Psy Eugene
I think you are missing the point. I think Shroom and anyone else (Male or Female) can make any decision they want. If they do not want to share the experience with a bunch of Arses... I can't blame or attack them. I can listen, try to understand and accomodate in any way possible their concerns in the next event... If we want them to come And that is what this thread is about, isn't it? Otherwise we will be dancing with a bunch of Arses from a parallel universe. And that is not so much of a party for me personally.

Hi off, you are totally right. She annoyed me so much that I forgot to address the positive side of her whining. I agree that organizers should make efforts to keep negative types out of parties. In the party I was last Friday there were a couple of Arses (or perhaps a version from another country) that tried hard to add negativity to me and the party in general. There was also one pervert gay guy who grubbed my ass a couple of times, and when he squeezed my arm, proving without a doubt that these weren't accidents, I had to make it clear that he should stay away. I wish that organizers could be more tough with such types. These things BTW didn't stop me from having the most amazing experience of my life, and definitely won't cause to avoid clubs forever, like some other people (hint hint).

agreed off the nut boom...many have forgotten what this is all about...id say here in sf we are lucky there are many women in the scene..women on the dancefloor, making the parties, djing, running labels its all here...BUt if you go to a club then you experience the "yahoo" vibe(which is equal to arsim)

psytrance for me has always been about an aware scen with cosmic people and vibes,,,sounds like LA(and anywhere the girls are turned off by the machoism) needs more female energy..so guys lay off the boob oogling and cheesy pick up lines..

just to generalize, it sounds like LA and SF are opposites - SF has sissy guys and the girls run the show while LA has sissy girls and the guys run the show.

we need another LA/SF party

That said, I think the strong male dominance in LA could be partly due to club people finding out and coming to our parties. Which could be attributed to the parties they've been having at Avalon with the big names. We promote at those parties and bring in the club (macho guy) element.

So if that's the case, it's up to us to enforce through our attitude and example the ethics we have. We don't harrass women. We don't get into brawls. We DO promote a fun and safe environment.

The more these macho arsim types come to our parties the more they'll see they've got nothing to fear, they can let their guard down, but we also won't take any shit and we won't accept our women being treated like shit. I can really only speak for Psytribe parties in saying if there is ANY trouble from anyone harrassing women, we will deal with it swiftly and surely.

As far as bringing more women to our parties, I think it's just a matter of promoting. I don't even think it's really about the music, cos as you can see in SF there's plenty of women who like the banging music. not all women need groovy dance tunes to appreciate a party. So, promote at places where women would probably dig this music and, as has been mentioned, having another stage with other music styles, like Green Sector is doing.

Yes, Shoshana, I totally agree. LA needs more women, and women that aren't afraid of a few guys struttin their stuff. women who are able to feel empowered in their own feminine self and balance the energy, as Aumi says.

What??? I thought girls liked getting groped at parties so long as the guy can pull it off that he doest realize what he's doing! I'd just decided that not enough groping was why the women werent paying enuff attention to me but now that I read this thread Im all confused!

Rich,
I think you guys ned to do a few word of mouth parties out in the boonies for 100 or 200 true trancers. Everyone invites their close friends and trustworthy ppl.

Just don't promote it with flyers and make sure to tell ppl this is an special event for special friends and the psy trance community. I am positive with the right ppl @ the dancefloor you will not have to police the party and you will be able to relax and enjoy the good Cali vibes

Psycosmo,
You are joking right? Of maybe you need to go to Cancun on Spring Break...

otnb, that is a great idea, but I actually don't think the situation is that bad.
Thing is, even with 100 close trustworthy friends, the guy to girl ratio would still be off. The problem seems to be with numbers. If there were as many girls as guys, the energy would be balanced and the male energy wouldn't be so pervasive.

you all make it sound like we're throwing visionquest parties. We're lucky to get 400 people and out of those most are people who come to parties regularly. Unless people speak up about specific situations or "problem" people then there is no way of knowing...like you all said, this is a family so we all need to protect the scene and the parties and that means letting the organizers know when/if someone gets out of hand... as for the girls, they are there but most hibernate at night and pop out during the morning hours... check out the pictures there are lots of girls during the daytime.           Fighting for peace is like fucking for virginity...

I saw this post on the TripOutNY trance list and thought it would spark some interesting conversations in here. Don't know the Author, maybe someone can shed some light.

here's a slightly edited version so as to keep subsequent comments on topic. . .

"You have my unequivocal support in this initiative, Jeff. It's actually
something we've been discussing on a local (non-psy) board in LA.

However, the women (sorry, i gotta draw the line somewhere) in free thing is
really only attacking the symptoms, not the root cause, of the Sausage Party
Syndrome. Yes, in the short term, you can create an artificial balance this
way, but after a while, if other steps aren't taken, you'll be back to
square one.

The root cause of the problem, to me, seems that the emphasis on what
creates a "good" event is very male-oriented. Yes, I realize that there are
women who are 'ardkore into the latest releases and the most full-on, dark,
twisted sounds, but contrary to the bleating on this list, they're not the
majority -- in any scene, from psy-trance to polkak0re. Most of the girls
I've spoken with, and many of the more "with-it" guys, realize that good
music & a good soundsytem should be completely taken for granted when going
to a party. That is only the first step, and yet most promoters focus all of
their energy on it, and on the rare occassions they get it right, stop there
and think their job is over. Bullshit!

If you wish to create a harmonious gender balance at your event, it is vital
that your organizational team is itself gender-balanced. A good balance of
guys, gals, sassy fags, and bull dykes will always create a more inspiring
shindig than 5 Dudes in Hoodies smoking cigarettes around the coffin. Let
the dudes focus on what they're good at - fucking up the sound balance and
ruining the 2am - 4am timeslot, while the rest work to create a more
interactive environment.

I know there really isn't much room for choice in NY, but given the chance,
venue choice can make or break an event. The sound should be good 'n proper
in the main room, but not bleed into any secondary areas - there should be a
reasonably well lighted (not fluorescent, not uv, something low-key) and
quiet area where people can congregate and talk. At outdoor events, there
should be shelter from the sun & wind, and variation in the surroundings -
rock formations in the desert, clearings in the forest, coral reefs on the
ocean floor... Indoor events should always offer something to
break up the monotony and allow participation, and an outdoor area should
always be available (again, this might not apply in NY, where it is
butt-cold 6 months out of the year).

Entertainment should not begin and end with the music -- out here, there has
been an upsurge in circus-style festivities. Stiltwalkers, fire-shenanigans
(not a good idea indoors, and not a good idea anywhere if they suck, which
most do), marching bands, etc. Sixth-Sense did very well out here with it's
Psycho Dance Show interlude, something which the Dream Theatre has taken to
new levels -- I'm not all that in favor of breaking the dance space at
prime-time, but other people don't seem to mind too much, and both those
promoters achieved a good gender balance at all their events.

As for lighting, put a bit of effort into it if you're going to do it at
all. NO: Strobe lights, Fog Machines, cheap "Intelligent" lighting, cheesy
Dr. Paradise style goa-collages, porn/war/violence video footage. YES: Well,
it's hard to describe, the good stuff can take on many forms. If you can't
afford/be bothered to spend a lot of effort on lighting, make it minimal -
dark dancefloor, low-lit communal areas / chillout room.

If your parties become known for DudeVibe, it can be very hard to break the
cycle. Take the above things into consideration, but consider changing the
name of your team, switching things around can always make a difference.

This is just a primer, there are many other things that can be done..."
