Why is there always atleast 3 ace ventura tracks in the top10 on beatport?
why is it always spintwist, iboga, hommega, nano label artists in the top10 at beatport?
nothing against that music or the people at all, just wondering how it could be like that all the time? is that the only stuff people buying these days? i mean there are lots of other good music for sure, but almost never hits the top100 even
ofcourse there isnt always just those labels and artists but they are dominating the psytrance section for sure.

cheers!

of course they ar e the ones that sell the most, mostly because the genre has small sales compared to the rest in beatport. Very few people buy.

All the others are downloading their stuff from ektoplasm           "The dedication to repetition — the search for nirvana in a single held tone or an endlessly cycling rhythm — is one of electronic music's noblest gestures."

Just taking a guess here, but to me Beatport seems to be the shop for club djs and basically non-psytrance djs. And those labels are the ones they'll dare dip their toes into when they want to add a little 'psytrance' to their sets.

Because these labels can reach a wider audience.

Someone who listens to progressive (Dave Seaman, Sasha, Digweed style) can listen to an Ace Ventura or Liquid Sould track but i doubt he will be interested in music from Parvati for example.           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!

It's because Beatport has everything under 1 section: psytrance. They have no idea what is progressive, full-on, oldskool Goa, dark etc.

From all the different subgenres of psytrance, I think progressive is the closest to House music for example. And the audience that that go's to Beatport is a bit more in to this kind of lighter music in general. I have always wondered why Beatport is calling everything Psytrance. I have even seen releases that were really close to House music and still called psychedelic in the eyes of Beatport. They were still damn good releases though.

So the solution is to make more different tags for subgenres. This way if you are in to a subgenre, you can see the leading artist of your kind of music very easily. It works much better. Because I can be in to the top Beatport releases, but i can imagine a darkpsy fan is not.

What I don't understand is why they make a separation between Prog House and Tech House, but not with Psytrance?

Psytrance sell absolutely nothing on Beatport. You can end up in the top 10 with approx. 20 sales.           www.beatagency.dk

Beatport is a mess, there is no difference in any genre, I listen to top 100 of every genre and really there is worst thing that calling psy prog and full on psytrance

All I see on beatport is the same names that play at big festivals and nothing more, with big fan base and that sound that most people dig these days because of it

I noticed they are always releasing something, even some remixes from the same top 100, so they are always there

That's because the psytrance label ecosystem is totally messed up and isconnected from the rest of EDM.

Psytrance for sure is the genre with less sales of all EDM, with less dj's and less professional labels is hard to sell.

That's why I believe things like ektoplasm will have to evolve tod eliver a middle ground model between beatport and totally free conent.           "The dedication to repetition — the search for nirvana in a single held tone or an endlessly cycling rhythm — is one of electronic music's noblest gestures."

beatport = joke. I wouldn't even worry about it for serious music artists.. maybe its great for, "deadmouse ( why does he spell his name like an idiot, I still can't remember where to put the five ) and Avici? ** maybe I am missing an "i"

Trackitdown, hardtofind records, juno download.. The other stores are more important!!

I think Ektoplasm should evolve to a paying site. I think people should buy + support the music.

If you support the good artists, than you will have more of a mix than these crap artists who will distribute their music on paying sites.

I used to work in a record shop and every week we had to submit sales figure to a company who published the top 50/100 list everyweek. We just used to make them up.

Well, who would have had the powers to count the sales the analog way everyweek. I would have made it up as well.

No need to make something up at beatport tho.
Dont see the point there.

cheers!

i guess many stick to what they know , sometimes check other artist, don't find anyhting better for the sound they are after > come back to their usual label and artists.

cause with so many artists labels and release it take time and its almost a mission

Beatport's psy-trance charts is besides the point when it comes to psy-trance.
